What a weekend! We just settled in from our 9th year competing at the New Jersey State Barbecue Cham ! I mean come on, what's better than having a bbq competition at the beach!?
Friday was an early day starting with an interview with Bob Kelly 👔🧦🍩🎤🎙 at 6:30 am (check out our interview in our previous post). It was great catching up with old friends and making new ones! There weather was nice enough to give us a beach day to relax before the big day.
Saturday, we decided to throw our hat in the ring for the 3 ancillaries (best burger, sauce and dessert)
Burger 🍔- 9th place out of 45 teams (wagyu ground beef from Stonyrun Farms )
Sauce- 25th place out of 46
Dessert- 4th place (5 way tie for 1st place!) with a perfect 180 score! Way to go, Lisa!
Now time for the main event. Eventually went smooth for the most part (we played Russian roulette by switching meats to different drums due to a few flare ups 🤪). At the end of the day we were very happy with our cook and believed it was our best cook of the season.
Results out of 65 teams
Chicken- 14th (first on our table) BELL & EVANS
Ribs- 17th (second on our table) Prairie Fresh Pork
Pork- 14th (first on our table) Prairie Fresh
Brisket- 28th 🤷♂️
Overall- 16th with a 681
