Winkler Knives

Winkler Knives is a limited production company that custom manufactures a diverse line of high performance edged tools. I became a full time bladesmith in 1988.

The history of early America has intrigued me for as long as I can remember. It was this fascination that prompted me to make my first knife in 1975, as part of an effort to authentically outfit myself with the equipment of an 18th century woodsman. Since that time, my interest in history and my desire to make knives have continued to grow. My inspiration continues to come from frontier America -

a time when the equipment a person carried meant sustenance and survival. I strive to be innovative, while maintaining a recognizable style. My goal is to make tools of uncompromising quality that will last a lifetime and survive as heirlooms for future generations. Through my work, I hope to preserve the heritage of utilitarian art and to promote the legacy of America's Founding Fathers. In recent years I have had the honor of working with Special Forces Teams in the United States Military, as well as Allied Forces from around the world. This involvement prompted the establihment of the Winkler Knives II product line. The knives and axes in the WKII Collection are all custom made in my shop. Rather than being hand forged, however, they are created through the stock removal process. All designs featured in Winkler Knives II are born of Warriors' experience. I aspire to the same standards of excellence in craftsmanship as with my hand forged work. Thank you for your interest in my work, as well as for your support of custom made cutlery.

This knife, introduced earlier in 2026, combines features of the WK Huntsman and WK Woodsman into a single piece of artistry and strength. Crafted from 80CrV2 steel, the WK Drop Point Hunter measures 8.5" overall, with a 4.5" drop point blade. This model was designed to turn heavy field chores into easy work. The raised thumb ramp and finger groove enhance grip, making it well suited to processing game and most cutting applications.

The WK Drop Point Hunter is available in our most popular handle materials: Black Laminate, Maple, and Walnut as well as Orange G10 with Black Nitrile AmeraGrip for high visibility (a feature specifically requested by outdoorsmen and hunters).

Great news!

Daniel and Karen will be at Winkler Knives Actual on Saturday, July 25th, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. You all know anytime Dan and Karen plan to spend time at the store it's going to be a good time. Also, several members of the Winkler Knives Enthusiasts group are planning to be there, so there will be lots of great conversation and fellowship. Can't forget..... there will be some pretty unique pieces available for purchase, too.

Winkler Knives Actual, our retail store located at 520 Church Road in beautiful Boone, North Carolina, is now open DAILY from 10am to 5pm!
