January 25th A Night to Remember. Back in November Mike Dobbins gave me some news about his wife Jennifer who we call Momma Jenn that was really hard to hear. She had been diagnosed with cancer and it was already attacking her bones. When you get that kind of news there are no words you can get out, there is just a lump inside your throat and stomach that you can't make go away, you can't believe this is true because it's not supposed to happen to you or someone that's close to you. After a few days and the intial shock calmed down I knew it was time to rally the co****le community! On December 10th I called Mike and I Said I don't know if you want it, and I don't know if you need it, but we are going to run a tournament for you and Jenn. I told him right then that it wasn't about the money that we just want to express our love and support in the best way we know how. He agreed to get the event scheduled and we locked in on 1/25/25.
Now, I have ran plenty of big events, but not lately so I knew I would need all the help I could get. Thankfully The Bristol Bagger Queen Christa was anxiously waiting to help. After Christmas we started bouncing off ideas about how we could make this event successful. We kept it simple with our switch format so that was taken care of, but how are we going to get more money and donations for this to be big? We flooded the local businesses asking for anything and everything we could get. Several places came through big so now all we need is players. We started sharing the link for players to get pre registered, and I'll be honest, that is always wishful thinking lol. Welp not this time! This time it was different, this time it was for Dobbins, this time EVERYONE wanted to be there and show this family that we are in their corner! And Her Fight is Our Fight! This time it was unbelievable! In my mind I expected 60 players to show out for this. Good news I was way way wrong! We had over 80 players that pre registered and 107 total players that played in the event. There were several more friends and family that could have played, but they were needed In other ways to help this whole thing happen. After an overwhelming start that actually started flowing very good we were able to raise $9,757 in about 7 hours. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Wow! I have been hosting now for 14 years, and last night was my favorite day of Co****le. This event was never about the money, it was about Mike. Mike is as good human being and he is a good friend and it's obvious that I'm not the only one who feels that way. January 25th A night to Remember. ❤️
There are so many names of people and businesses that deserve to be recognized and I know there will be someone that I forget but thank you all from the bottom of my heart you all know who you are. There were several that set me money through Venmo that couldn't be there in person and that really was awesome! From the people there early to start setting up, to the ones that grabbed the mic and took control when it was needed, to the ones that gave their time and energy beyond what they were asked! I seriously appreciate you! Here's some photos of the night! Congratulations to all the winners but the real winners were this Co****le community! Your support and love is unmatched.
