Who says summer means a break from the ice?

Our coach and skaters have been out rollerblading as part of summer land training โ€” building the same strength, balance, and stride technique they'll bring back to the rink this fall.

Turns out staying sharp doesn't require ice at all.

As the 2025โ€“26 ice season wraps up, we can't help but shout out one of our own who absolutely LEVELED UP this year. Let's recap what Jace pulled off:โฃโฃ

โšก ๐‹๐Ž๐๐† ๐“๐‘๐€๐‚๐Š Jace slashed his personal bests in a big way โ€” dropping his 500m from 43.63 โ†’ ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ.๐Ÿ—๐Ÿ— and his 1000m from 1:28.81 โ†’ ๐Ÿ:๐Ÿ๐Ÿ.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ–. All of that while training part-time and making trips to Milwaukee. The grind is REAL.โฃโฃ

Nationals is where the nation's best show up, and Jace showed OUT. Competing as a first-year Junior C, he battled through a tough field and ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ to finish ๐Ÿ•๐ญ๐ก ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ. Even more impressive? He was the ๐ก๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ-๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ค๐ž๐ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ-๐ฒ๐ž๐š๐ซ ๐‰๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ซ ๐‚ in the entire field, surpassing skaters who had finished ahead of him the year before. The Ohio State Meet in Cleveland took place on February 21st and two Wolverine Sports Club athletes participated and had excellent results. Jia Son, in the Junior E division, placed first in her second only competition. Will Morganti was back at it and skated personal records in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m. Great work, you two.

Another Master's Wolverine skater, Will Morganti, captures 4th place in the Hamilton Ottawa Elite Meet. Way to go and represent our club in Canada!! Next week he is off to Cleveland to compete. Good luck, Will!

Speed Skating Update

Inzell, Germany was the site for the World Masters' Allround Long Track Speedskating Championships.

The venue was a gorgeous and fast 400m indoor track nestled in the Bavarian Alps. The international skating community was terrific with 218 skaters, 64 of which were women: Nineteen nations were represented (we had 11 USA athletes). Wolverine Sports Club's Coach Judy had the opportunity to catch up with many international friends and even rekindled friendships with two Italians she knew as skaters from 50 years ago.

Now for her results. Three of the four races she skated become world records for her age group (75-79 years) and the fourth she had already achieved as a world record last year. Coach Judy says,"Hard work, good nutrition and a strong faith have helped me excel as a longevity athlete. I am proud to be a Wolverine Sports Club skater and wish to thank former Olympian, Coach Jill Rookard, and my training partners for all the help they have given me during our practices."

We invite newcomers of all ages to the sport and optimistic future Olympians to join us at practice either at the Detroit Skating Club at 888 Denison Ct., Bloomfield Twp. on Friday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm or at the Garden City Ice Arena at 200 Log Cabin Road, Garden City on Sunday evenings from 6:15-8:30pm.
