Today marked the start of the Colin Smith 2-Bowl Pairs at Essex County Lawn Bowling Club.
We took a moment to honor the memory of Colin Smith, who sadly passed away this past February. Touching tributes were shared by those who knew him well, including his beloved wife, Debbie Smith.

It was especially meaningful to see Colin’s granddaughter, Olivia, proudly holding his plaque alongside his daughter, Jackie — a beautiful reminder of his lasting legacy.

Colin Smith served as President of Essex County LBC since 1995 and contributed significantly at both the Divisional and National levels. Colin was inducted in the Bowls USA Hall of Fame back in 2017. In recent years, Colin faced health challenges and was unable to be as active, but his impact on the sport and the club was immense. It is with great sadness that we share Colin passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 70. We are deeply grateful for all that he has done for the sport of bowls and our club. He will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on Wed, Feb 5th from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service.

Congratulations to Veronica Sum 🎊 of Essex County Lawn Bowling Club in Bloomfield, NJ for winning the 2024 Bowler of the Year in the Northeast Division (NED). It has been 13 years since a woman last won this prestigious honor. Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Congrats to two of our club members for winning the 2024 Arculli Pairs, honoring a world champion in bowling, Skip Arculli. Unfortunately, this year the event couldn’t be held at Essex County Lawn Bowling Club due to the damage of the green. Instead, we appreciate Skytop for hosting this year’s event.

Wishing two of our members of Essex County LBC, Michele Arculli and Veronica Sum, good bowling at this year’s National Championships.

Their team will be playing against the top players from other divisions across the country to be named first and second place in Women’s
Singles, Women’s Pairs, Men’s Singles and Men’s Pairs.

Congrats to Scott Snyder from Essex County LBC with his partner, Ted Tragard of Frick Park, in winning this weekend’s Colin Smith 2-bowl pairs. Both Veronica Sum and Bobby Sayer from the club also placed 2nd and 3rd with their respective partners. Awesome showing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This annual tournament honors Colin Smith and all the dedication he has provided to the club, division and national organizations. We are looking forward to seeing Colin tomorrow on the last day of the tournament!

We played our second NED tournament of the season, the Colin Smith 2-Bowls Pairs today at Essex County Lawn Bowling Club in Watsessing Park. The winners will be determined tomorrow.

Something special to note as we head up to Father’s Day next Sunday, we had 4 teams of Fathers/Sons play in this tournament. So cool to see so many family members playing together.

Congratulations to all the winners and for Veronica Sum, Sam Johnson, Will Aitcheson for representing their club at this event.

We had the first inaugural Berg-Farrell singles held at the Chesapeake Bay Lawn Bowls Club in Hartfield, VA this weekend. First day it was rained out and today we played 4 games.

Results:
1st place 🥇: Ryan Hastu of NY Lawn Bowling Club won with a 4-0 record
2nd place 🥈: Kate Carriage, Chesapeake Bay LBC / Australia
3rd place 🥉: Veronica Sum, Essex County LBC

There was a playoff for 2nd and 3rd Place between 4 people. Kate Carriage beat Tony Rutigliano of Frick Park and Veronica Sum beat Michele Lary of Frick Park to advance. Kate was able to pull off the win against Veronica by 1 point on a very tricky rink.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks for all the participation from all the other players. Thank you to Chesapeake Bay Lawn Bowling Club for hosting and to all the markers! We were also very grateful that the sun ☀️ came out too!
