Simpson Scores Big in East Series’ Inaugural visit to Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD, IOWA (May 25, 2026) - Chad Simpson finished out the Memorial Day weekend swing with the Malvern Bank Super Late Modelr Racing East Series with a big payday in the tour’s first-ever visit to the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway Monday night.

The semi-banked 3/8 mile oval on the Davis County Fairgrounds in Bloomfield, Iowa was the sight of round 3 for the SLMR East Series as they wrapped up their tripleheader weekend. The race made Bloomfield the 27th different track in Iowa to ever host an SLMR event, and it was the first late model event of any kind at the track since 2007. Drivers from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota made the trip to Bloomfield to race in front of a sold-out crowd for a chance to take $3,000 home.

South Dakota’s Blair Nothdurft showed his speed as he was Monday’s Keyser Manufacturing top qualifier with his 18.313 second lap time to top the first group. The second group on the night was led by Jesse Sobbing. The Reigning West Series Champion clocked in at 18. 830 seconds.

The two heat races on the night were dominated by Jacob Hobscheidt and Derrick Stewart. After points were tallied through qualifying and the heat races, Jesse Sobbing was the top earner which gave him first chance at the $2,750 bonus with the Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place Starting Position. Sobbing declined the challenge and thus handed the bonus money opportunity to last year’s East Series Points Runner-up, Chad Simpson.

Sobbing would start on pole position for the 25-lap main event with Nothdurft to his outside. Nothdurft used the outside line the best he could early on and manage to take the early lead away from Sobbing to begin the race. Sobbing continued to run second while Chad Simpson and Reigning East Series Champion Dylan Thornton worked their way towards the front.

Sobbing eventually catch up and take the lead on the conclusion of lap 9 of the race. All the while, Simpson worked his way to second using both high and low lanes. He proved to be one of the few drivers who was able to utilize both racing lines to his advantage, and with only 11 laps remaining, Simpson made the go-ahead move for the lead as he and Sobbing came off of turn two. This left Sobbing to battle Thornton for third while Simpson proceeded to run away with the show.

After 25 caution-free laps, Chad Simpson would cross under the double checkered flags, securing his first win of the season, his ninth career SLMR Series victory, and the $2,750 Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place Starter bonus money. This made Simpson’s take-home pay a stout $5,750 by the end of the night.

Jesse Sobbing narrowly was able to hold off Dylan Thornton for second. The Reigning Champion would have to settle for third while Blair Nothdurft finished fourth, and Jason Hahne rounded out the top five. Simpson would also take home the Hoosier Tire Hard Charger Award after his 6th to 1st performance.

The East Series will now take the next weekend off while the West Series returns to action on Friday, May 29th as the tour heads south to the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. After that, both East and West Series will come together for a huge 3-day debut at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin on June 4-6. The East will start the weekend on Thursday the 4th followed by the first two dual races of the year.

Dubuque, Iowa (May 24, 2026) - The Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing Series saw a brand-new face in victory lane after Sunday’s East Series invasion of the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway.

The second round of the East Series in 2026 saw the tour make the trip to the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway. The wide and high-banked 3/8 mile oval in Dubuque, Iowa played host to the series for the fifth time with a field of 21 cars parking in the back stretch hill for a chance to score a $3,000 payday.

The night began with Jason Hahne being the Keyser Manufacturing Top Qualifier. The Webster City, Iowa native topped group two with a blistering fast 14.894 second lap. The first group was led by Blair Nothdurft with a 14.959 second lap set by the South Dakota driver. Last Year’s East Series Rookie of the Year, Dallon Murty, was the quickest in the third and final qualifying group when he stopped the clock at 14.907 seconds.

Sunday’s three heat races were won by Jesse Glenz, C J Horn and Jacob Hobscheidt. Dallon Murty came back as the top point earner after qualifying and heat race action, which meant he had the chance at the Skyline Materials Lucky 6th Place Starting Spot Challenge. The Chelsea, Iowa driver accepted and started sixth for the Malvern Bank Main Event.

The field returned to the track for the 30-lap feature with Andrew Kosiski bringing the field down to the start from pole position. The initial start was called back, but after the second start was good to go, Charlie McKenna jumped from the outside front row to the lead. McKenna pulled away from the rest of the field while Jason Hahne, Blair Nothdurft, Andrew Kosiski, and Dallon Murty swapped positions while searching the top and bottom lanes for any grip they could use.

As the race progressed, the top line took rubber with many drivers using the momentum to their advantage. Meanwhile, a few drivers attempted to use the bottom lane, Nothdurft and Murty were among the first to take to the low end of the speedway. A couple of drivers who were also using the bottom effectively were Jacob Hobscheidt and Nick Marolf. Hobscheidt and Marolf worked their ways to the front of the pack in a big way in the last ten laps.

Hobscheidt charged his way to the front and challenge McKenna for the lead with seven laps to go, and he would ultimately take command of the top spot as they came down to the start/finish line with only four laps remaining.

The bottom lane paid off big as Jacob Hobscheidt led the final four laps to secure his first career Malvern Bank SLMR Series win making him the fourth different driver in five visits to Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway, the 23rd different Nebraska born winner, and the 53rd different winner all-time with the series.

Nick Marolf officially ties his career-best finish with the SLMR series with a second-place run after utilizing the low lane like Hobscheidt while Jason Hahne took third. Charlie McKenna ended up fourth after leading 26 of 30 laps, and Blair Nothdurft rounded out the top five.

The Memorial Day weekend for the Malvern Bank SLMR East Series finishes up on Monday with the tour’s rescheduled first-ever visit to the Bloomfield Speedway in Bloomfield, Iowa. The following week, the West Series gears up for their second round with a visit to the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas.

Josh Schneiderman Cashes in $2,000 Hometown Win with Sprint Invaders!
by Bill Wright

West Burlington, IA, May 24, 2026 – Josh Schneiderman made racing at home pay off Sunday night, when he took the Mohrfeld Solar Sprint Invaders main event at the 34 Raceway in his hometown West Burlington, Iowa. Schneiderman came back after losing an early lead to win his fifth career feature at the 34 Raceway with the Sprint Invaders, tying him with Matt Rogerson, Jerrod Hull, Dustin Selvage and Paul Nienhiser for first all-time. It was his eleventh with the series in his career.

The 20-lap main event saw Schneiderman lead early over Cam Sorrels, Alex Vande Voort, Tasker Phillips and Ryan Jamison. Sixteen-year-old Lincoln Martin passed three-time Sprint Invaders champion Jamison to move into the top five on lap three.

Schneiderman was into lapped traffic on the sixth circuit, before a seventh running Sawyer Phillips spun, bringing the first caution of the event. Schneiderman led Sorrels, Vande Voort, Tasker and Martin back to green.

Sorrels took advantage of the restart to slide in front of Schneiderman in turn two, taking the point. At the same time, Sean McClelland moved into the top five. On lap 11, the third running Vande Voort would have his race come to an end after contacting the wall. The fifth running Lincoln Martin would stop under caution, giving up his spot.

Sorrels led Schneiderman, Tasker, McClelland and Cam Martin back to green. Cam moved by McClelland into fourth and began pressuring Tasker for third. When he attempted to get under Tasker on lap 14, the door was closed and both cars spun out of contention. Nathan Murders tried to avoid the pair, but caught Tasker. The result of the incident saw Murders lose his front end and drift into the infield.

Now there were six laps to go, and Sorrels led Schneiderman, McClelland, Jamison and Cody Wehrle back to green. Wehrle quickly grabbed fourth.

With three to go, Schneiderman found some rubber in the middle of the track and shot by Sorrels to take the lead before McCain Richards went over the top of turn two to bring caution. Schneiderman was never headed after the restart. His win came ahead of McClelland, who also got by Sorrels with a lap to go, hard-charger Wehrle and Jamison. Tyler Lee, Sawyer Phillips, Cole Mincer, Dustin Clark and Nate Parks rounded out the top ten. Jamison, Sorrels and Vande Voort won the heats, while Schneiderman took the Dash.

“When I lost the lead, I got nervous,” said a happy Schneiderman. “But I kept searching. I told myself on that last corner to just stand up and drive the damn thing. I appreciate that (Sorrels) raced me clean when he passed me. He’s got a great future there. I love the 34 Raceway. I know the track wasn’t perfect, but I still love it!”

“We weren’t that great in the heat,” said McClelland, about making his maiden voyage to 34 Raceway. “That put us starting seventh. As old as I am (51), I’m going to stay smooth and steady and let those other guys slide and run over each other. About halfway through, I found it (rubber) in three and four. On that last restart, I was sitting in third and I didn’t think they’d found it yet. I was licking my chops. (Sorrels) didn’t see it, but (Schneiderman) races here a lot and he found it. That’s the way it goes.”

“I didn’t expect him to go into three and four like that, so I went to the bottom of the racetrack,” said Sorrels of his pass of Schneiderman for the lead early. “I knew it was probably going to rubber eventually, so I took what I had. I felt really good, but later I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was a situation where you’d rather be second or third and find the rubber first. Overall, we had speed and worked our butts off. It’s something we can’t control, but we learn as we go.”

The Mohrfeld Solar Sprint Invaders head to Quincy Raceways in Quincy, Illinois, Sunday, June 14. For more information on the Sprint Invaders, visit www.SprintInvaders.net or visit us on Facebook.
