When I write, I let my mind wander and I tend to mindlessly Google whatever pops into it. Whilst doing this, I started to think about Caddyshack. Then games. Then I thought about the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” or “Bacon’s Law” game. What’s that you ask? Well, per Wikipedia, it’s a parlor game started in 2007 where players challenge each other to choose an actor whom they connect to another actor via film in which both actors appeared - this is repeated to try to find the shortest path that leads to prolific American actor Kevin Bacon (think Footloose).

So:

Golf is a game. Caddyshack is a movie about golf. But what does this have go do with Kevin Bacon? I’ll show you….

Scholarship Recipients (1st degree)

College (2nd degree)

Back to School (movie) / filmed at UW Madison / and starring Rodney Dangerfield (3rd degree)

Rodney Dangerfield (comedian/actor) was in Caddyshack (4th degree)

Caddyshack was a movie about golf (5th degree)

Kevin Bacon likes to Golf. (6th degree)

First time I’ve ever played Bacon’s Law = Success!

Okay, so technically Rodney and Kevin weren’t in a movie together, but the common denominator here is golf. OH! And! Kenny Loggins - Kenny sang “I’m Alright” (the gopher dance song) in Caddyshack and “Footloose” in Footloose. (Everyone should smile here, or laugh to at least humor me).

The 14th Annual Pecatonica High School Scholarship Golf Outing will be held on Friday, June 13th, 2025 at the Edelweiss Chalet and Country Club in New Glarus. Registration begins at 9:30AM, with a lunch of burgers and brats at 10AM, and a shot gun start at 11AM.

This year we were pleased to award 5 scholarships in the amount of $3000.00 each to the following Class of 2025 graduates - Trevor Doescher, Diana Hendrickson, Rya Jorenby, Cole Phillips and Brianna Turner.

Each year, the outing continues to grow to new heights. The first outing was held in 2011 with a total of 14 teams. This year, we have 38 teams, 152 golfers - and filled up all but 3 available place holders in 2 days. Yes, folks, 35 teams had signed up in 2 days.. The success and legacy of the outing continues to amaze and overwhelm the golf committee, and we are so grateful to our golfers, alumni, friends, community members and business partners. You! are what continues to make our scholarships possible, with your donations, auction items, door prizes; participation, faithfulness and generosity - we know and fully realize that you are the difference, and Steve, Rocky and I are forever thankful for your support.

Day #2 of the required songs for your golf
playlist “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas. Agree 100% with this one. Will you hear this at the golf outing on Friday? Dunno. But you will see the scholarship kids, your friends and new friends!

The golf outing is fast approaching! To get you prepped and in the right ‘mind-set’, I know some golfers like to have ‘tunes’ on as they roll up to tee off. So, to assist you with your playlist, each day I will
post a tune of your ‘Required Songs’ from a listing I found of 59 songs to consider for your next golf event.
(Thanks to Google, and you’re welcome). 🙂

Today’s Song - “I’m Alright” by Kenny Loggins.

On Friday our scholarship recipients will be there,
bright and early with happy, sunshiny faces ready to greet you. Stop and chat with these kids and wish them well.

We know and understand that these scholarships aren’t possible without our golfers, neighbors, friends, community members, business partners and alumni. The donations for door prizes, auction items or in-kind we have received over the years and continue to are appreciated. Because of all of you, we’ve come a long way baby - from our first one and only scholarship presented in 2010 for $500, to this year’s 5, $3000 scholarships we are blessed to have your support! ⛳️

As the Pointer Sisters spoke to each other before they started to sing ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ on the very first “A Very Special Christmas” CD - “Here we are again, another year’s gone by!” We, too can say the same thing, and Friday the 13th (of June) will be the 14th Annual Pecatonica High School Scholarship Golf ⛳️ Outing that will again be held at the Edelweiss Chalet and Country Club in New Glarus.

This year, the golf committee set a record by establishing 5, $3000 scholarships! To be eligible
to receive, the student must be a child or grandchild of a Blanchardville or Pecatonica graduate. Our 2025 recipients are Trevor Doescher, Diana Hendrickson, Rya Jorenby, Cole Phillips and Brianna Turner.

These scholarships would not even begin to be possible if it weren’t for our golfers, our friends, business partners, alumni and community members with their giving hearts. The golf committee is forever grateful to all for their support.

Senior-ite-is’. It’s like allergies, but truly only prevalent from March until Memorial Day weekend. ‘Senior-ite-is’ is often found in kids ages 17-18, and in their last year of high school. This ahem, ‘issue’ has affected each one of us. Some will admit to it, and some will not. In spite of that, we all know the remedy to resolve this ‘allergy’ type symptom - what’s the antidote? Graduation.

Graduation is the official welcoming ceremony of the student into adulthood. A fresh start with new beginnings - which also requires a little extra boost to the piggy bank.

Because of the support of our Pec Alumni and friends of the Pec Alumni, we have been successful through the years with providing scholarships for many of our Pec graduates. However, our success depends on your continued support. Please consider helping us make a difference again this year for our Pec graduates. Our Golf Outing is scheduled for Friday June 17th, 2022 at the Edelweiss Golf & Country Club. Thanks to the many generous hearts, this year we are fortunate to award 3 - Pecatonica Graduating Seniors scholarships of $1500. EACH.

None of this would be possible without YOU! If you wish to make a donation, please know how much it is appreciated. We thank you for your support!
