🏁💚 Well… Not Racing Tonight! 💚🏁

I guess the rain scared a lot of folks off tonight because we ended up with only 3 crate cars.

They offered to combine the 604 Crates with the Limiteds so we could still race if we wanted to. Junior and I talked it over, and ultimately we decided the smartest thing for us was to load the #1 back up and call it a night.

We know what we’ve got, and we know what we don’t have—and right now, we just don’t have enough motor under the hood to go play with those Limited boys! 😂 There’s no sense in putting unnecessary wear and tear on the old girl trying to compete against cars with a whole lot more horsepower.

Sometimes the best racing decision is knowing when not to race.

So the #1 is loaded up safe and sound, and we’ll save her for another night when we can race where we belong.

🏁💚 HERE’S TO A WILD HAIR KIND OF NIGHT! 💚🏁

Well, our wild hair trip to North Georgia Speedway turned out to be a pretty dang good night! 😂🏁

After finding that broken motor mount this morning and getting a new one put on, the old girl drove MUCH better than she did last night! Turns out that new heartbeat likes being actually bolted in safely! 😂🔧💪🏼

Junior went out and qualified 2nd, putting the #1 on the front row outside for the feature! 🔥

When the green flag dropped, it was GO TIME! After a short battle up front, Junior settled into 2nd place, where he stayed and brought her home with a P2 finish! 🏁🥈

Everybody wants to win when they pull onto that racetrack, and we’re no different — but tonight, 2nd place felt a whole lot like a win. 🏁❤️ Watching that #17 cross the finish line first after losing their dad was a moment bigger than racing. Some wins are just meant to be, and tonight that one belonged to the 17. 🙏🏼🏁 We couldn’t have been happier to finish right behind them.

We are SUPER PUMPED about the old girl’s new heartbeat! 💚🧡 She’s showing us what she’s got, and now that everything is actually bolted down like it’s supposed to be 😂, we’re excited to keep working on her and see just how good we can get this combination!

🏁💚 WELL… WE GOT A WILD HAIR! 💚🏁

We got up bright and early this morning, washed the old girl up, made a few changes, and started going over everything. And the more we worked and the more we talked about racing, that wild hair just kept getting a little wilder… 😂🏁

Before we knew it, the decision was made — North Georgia Speedway, HERE WE COME! 🔥🏁

During the bolt check, we found a motor mount broke slap into 😳 Well… that explains some of the issues Junior was fighting last night!

Got that problem handled and a new one put on — HUGE thank you to Rodney Weeks for coming through with the motor mount! We sure appreciate it! 💪🏼

Nothing like a little last-minute thrashing to get the blood pumping. 😂🔧 The #1 is loaded up, Junior is ready, and that wild hair has officially taken over!

Junior struggled pretty bad during qualifying on a slimy track and the car was pushing like crazy. On top of that, we had a transponder issue and only 2 laps actually registered. He pulled in before completing the checkered-flag lap, which would’ve been the 4th and final lap, so he ended up getting 3 out of the 4 qualifying laps. With only four cars here, he wasn’t allowed to go back out and make it up.

But hey — it is what it is. 🤷‍♀️ I told him to look at it as a practice session because tonight was really about trying out a new motor anyway.

And on that front… we’re happy! 💚🧡 The new motor did GOOD — actually better than we expected! She’s still got a little room for improvement, but after all the weird, random issues we’ve fought this year, we’ll gladly take it! He ended up 2nd, running a good race!

Now it’s time to get to work, get this combination figured out, and get this #1 machine dialed in. 🔧🏁

🏁💚 We Had the Speed… Just Not the Luck 💚🏁

It never fails… when it’s a big race, it seems like our luck just isn’t on our side. Something always finds a way to go wrong.

The good news is the changes we made to the #1 machine were working exactly like we hoped. Junior was driving a heck of a race. He battled his way into 2nd, then started reeling in the leader little by little. Lap after lap, he was closing the gap, and it looked like we were fixing to have one exciting battle for the lead.

Then the engine started popping.

It began losing horsepower, and before long Junior spun out and the engine died. He tried everything he could to get it restarted, and after finally getting it fired back up, he had to restart at the rear of the field and the motor continued popping for the remainder of the race. The car was nowhere near what it had been just a few laps earlier.

Instead of loading up, Junior stayed with it and salvaged a 7th-place finish. It definitely wasn’t the result we came for, but sometimes just finishing is an accomplishment.

After getting back to the pits, we found a broken header. Whether it’s related to the water pump failure from a couple of weeks ago, we just don’t know yet. Now it’s time to get the old girl back to the shop, tear her apart, and make sure there isn’t any internal engine damage.

This is definitely not how we wanted to end our night. The old girl may be telling us she’s ready for a new heart… so if anybody out there wants to help sponsor a new motor, we’re all ears! 😂

That’s racing.

Race it. Break it. Fix it. Repeat.
