It is that time of year to give the Championship Season of the 2013 BSLPAA Steeler's a little review!
Congratulations 2013 Champions!
6th Grade Champs - Steelers
Including all games through the Super Bowl:
We went 10-1!
Offensively:
We scored a Steeler Offensive record of 223 points! 56 more points than last year.
We averaged 20.27 pts per game
Highest scoring game 44pts.
In terms of points scored, we were #1 (The BSLPAA is incorrect)
For those of you into football, this is amazing for 6th graders, I say this not only as a Steeler coach, but my background was playing college, coaching college, coaching HS, and now the youth league. To know that these kids learned this much offense in a short period of time is amazing. When you watch the DVD they will allude to our plays being called! Here is a glimpse of what they were taught:
7 different formations:
Curtain, Pro Set, Power I, Spread, Diamond, Steelers, Hammer)
Out of those varying sets, we were able to call 57 different plays! If you watched all of our games, and compared them to the competition, we always had something new and different to throw at them. When something worked we went back to it!
Great job offense!
Defensively:
We and gave up a new Steeler Defensive Record of only 32 points!
The opposing teams only scored 2.81 pts per game
In terms of defense, we were #1 allowing the fewest points!
We also led all teams in terms of Goose Eggs! 8 of our 11 games ended in shut outs! (Just think, only 3 teams sniffed the end zone, one on the last play!)
Defensively we are not allowed to Blitz, but what we can accomplish is different responsibilities on each play depending on the call. Our Lightning was our 4-3 defense and our Thunder was out 5-2 base.

These were used predominantly in the Super Bowl. You will see on the DVD where we manned and zoned some players, and it looked like a "bracket" was placed on the opposing receiver. It worked perfectly, and they made it looked like it was practiced for months!
