It was a very difficult decision to step down as Head Wrestling Coach of Camden County College. Being a Cougar for the past 10 years has been among my greatest honors, but I’m now looking forward to spending more time with family and follow the plan God has in store for me.
Stepping into a coaching role was an unexpected calling. I quickly realized the greatness of transforming a group of individuals into a cohesive and effective program. I cherished the opportunity of working with student-athletes during such a pivotal stage while developing their wrestling skills with an approach that is transferable to life.
It has been a tremendous privilege to pair Camden County College’s accessible and affordable education with a competitive and fulfilling wrestling opportunity. It’s a special experience to reflect on the collection of individuals that have passed through our doors - we’ve served as a launchpad for state place winners, reset point for NCAA transfers, and first opportunity for less experienced wrestlers. The pursuit to grow wrestling is important and I’m glad to have played a small part in it.
All thanks and credit is due to Coach Gary Papa who brought wrestling to CCC with monumental effort in 2014. I am endlessly thankful that Coach Papa offered me the opportunity to join his staff and learn from the best to ever do it.
I hold the utmost appreciation and love for my brothers - Alex Velez, Jason Carter, Daishi Goto and Matt O’Donnell. Witnessing their progression from competing to coaching alongside me has been a true pleasure. Many thanks for their dedication and passion as assistant coaches; all contributing to the development of our program.
I am excited to follow the Cougar’s success under the leadership of Coach Velez along with Coach Carter. The best is yet to come in this new era!
Thanks also to our former Athletic Directors - Bill Banks, Will Logan, John Simone and current AD Fred Carella. Despite the many challenges we faced, each supported our program to the best of their capabilities.
Thank you to my wife, Jess, without whose love and support, I could not have dedicated the time necessary to be a successful coach.
Most of all, THANK YOU alumni and current wrestlers. I’ll always appreciate you and the sweat we shared. I only wish we had more than two years of eligibility to work together. Luckily, we remain bound to brotherhood as Cougars For Life.
