✨ RAISING THE BARRE: FROM STUDIO TO STAGE

Every dancer in our studios has pictured it — the moment the training turns into a career. On Friday, September 25, Alabama Ballet School students and their families are invited to spend an intimate evening with Skylar Brandt, Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre.

The evening includes:
- A performance by Skylar
- A conversation about her path from student to principal dancer
- An open Q&A on training, discipline, setbacks, and life in the profession

Some of our dancers will leave with a new sense of what they're working toward. Others will leave with an answer to a question they've been carrying for years. Either way, they'll have spent an evening with an artist who once sat exactly where they're sitting.

Broadway is coming to the barre! 🎭 Alabama Ballet School welcomes Terrance Martin for a master class — Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9:00-10:30(Ages 9-12) + 10:30-12:00(Ages 13+).

Terrance is currently a Dance Captain/Swing on the Philip Tour of Hamilton: An American Musical, with credits across the Angelica, Philip, and International Tours, plus The Little Mermaid (Sebastian), My Fair Lady, Mamma Mia, and West Side Story. A B.F.A. graduate of The University of the Arts, he's performed work by Ronald K. Brown, Camille A. Brown, Earl Mosley, and Ronen Koresh, and has taught master classes around the world.

Now he's teaching ours. 🩰 This class is open to the public!

Last week, the Day Program worked on their second contemporary piece of the season with company dancer and choreographer Katie Drozd! ✨

Set to lively folk music, this new work is full of playful moments and high-energy movement. We can’t wait to see it come to life!

⏰ LAST CALL — REGISTRATION CLOSES TOMORROW AT NOON ⏰ Alabama Ballet is one of only a handful of companies in the world licensed to perform George Balanchine's The Nutcracker® — and our Youth Cast performs it live, on stage, alongside Birmingham's professional ballet company.

If your dancer wants to audition for the Youth Cast of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker®, tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. is the cutoff. After that, registration closes for the year.

There is NO walk-up registration this Sunday.

🩰 WHO CAN AUDITION

Ages 8–18 (prior to the audition date)
No taller than 5'9"
Currently enrolled at a local dance studio
Dance attire — leotard, tights, and ballet shoes

📍 AUDITIONS: Sunday, August 30 at the Alabama Ballet Center for Dance Group 1 (under 5' tall): 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Group 2 (over 5' tall): 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

✨ RAISING THE BARRE: FROM STUDIO TO STAGE ✨

What happens when a young dancer’s dreams take them from the studio to the world’s greatest stages? On September 25, Alabama Ballet School students and their families will have an incredible opportunity to experience an intimate evening with Skylar Brandt, Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre! 🩰

Students will be able to:
✨ See Skylar perform
💬 Hear about her journey from student to professional dancer
🩰 Ask questions about training, discipline, challenges, and life as a professional dancer

For our youngest dancers, it’s a chance to see what may be possible. For our older students, it’s an opportunity to learn from an artist working at the highest level of the profession. And for our families, it’s a special evening to come together around the art our students work so hard to pursue.

This is your dancer's chance to share the stage with Birmingham's professional ballet company — in a production only a handful of companies in the world are licensed to perform.

Alabama Ballet is one of the few companies granted the rights to stage George Balanchine's The Nutcracker®, and every year our Youth Cast is right there in it.

📍 AUDITION DETAILS: Sunday, August 30, 2026 Alabama Ballet Center for Dance Group 1 (dancers under 5' tall): 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Group 2 (dancers over 5' tall): 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Please join us in welcoming our 2026/2027 Day Program students, who began their season today. 🩰

Some are returning for another year while some are new to the program. All of them will spend the months ahead training in ballet technique, pointe, variations, partnering, contemporary, conditioning, and repertoire. Along the way they’ll perform in community engagements, in school productions, and alongside our professional company with opportunities to compete as well.

We’re looking forward to watching this group grow this season! ⭐️
