We started this month with East Coast Pro, hosted a movie night on the lawn, and even had a rodeo. Then we had just 13 days to turn it around and make it playable for Hoover’s first high school football game.
Today, we had to open it back up and pull some cores. You may or may not know, but we core aerify a minimum of five times a year.
Core aerification is important because it relieves soil compaction and allows more air, water, and nutrients to reach the turf’s root system. It promotes deeper, healthier roots, improves drainage, and helps the field recover faster from heavy traffic and repeated events.
It’s not always the prettiest part of what we do, but it’s an essential part of our maintenance program and another step toward our goal: having the best darn field in the South.
