ATTENTION....calling all families.... We still need to house 10 students!
In collaboration with CF athletic office, Superintendent Tom Burkhardt and Harvey Grammar School Tour Coordinator and football coach from England, James Walton, an incredible opportunity has returned.
Mr. Walton has been coming to the United States with his group of footballers (soccer players) for many years in cooperation with local families and school districts. The group tours Massachusetts and New York, playing matches where they can fit them in and staying mostly with local host families. Two years ago this group visited, and made their memories primarily with CF host families.
Here is what we are looking for: Families that are willing to host these student-athletes from August 13th – 19th. Two boys (or more) per host seemed to work best. By having at least two, the boys seemed to warm up faster, and they could be more self-sufficient in this manner as needed. The boys are between the ages of 17-18, juniors and seniors in high school. All are high performing students in their academic studies and do not have a disciplinary history. The boys’ needs would include a place to sleep, access to laundry and shower facilities and some meals. They will have their own itinerary and would be independent with their travel to trainings, tours and events via their team van. If you are available for any local transport that is permitted, but in no way a requirement. Families also help families get the players where they need to be. Coach McMullen will also set up a time where they may train/play with our boys at Blue Devil Stadium. A more detailed itinerary will be released later as it is finalized and confirmed.
The boys are also interested in learning about our culture, foods, etc, so they are appreciative of any dinners you may have as a family or other activity that they may be included in while they are here. But don’t feel as though you have to make special plans though. They can be totally self sufficient aside from the few needs stated above.
This event was a huge success in 2022, just ask any of our many previous host families. Both hosts and guests had memorable experiences, and there was some sadness as the boys departed. Let’s keep this international event in our back yards! If we can’t host these gents, they’ll surely be picked up by another district’s families.
If you are interested and would like to go on the list for hosting, or have further questions, please email, call or text Sara Couchman, 703-350-1107, [email protected]. They were hosts to two students in 2022 and can share their experience with you in addition to put you on the list if you are interested in hosting!
Cheers!!
