The stadium opened on April 14th, 1992 as Binghamton Municipal Stadium, it is owned by the City of Binghamton, but leased and fully operated by the baseball club. The ballpark, with a capacity of 6,012, has a natural grass field and has been the home to the New York Mets Double-A affiliate since its opening; first named the Binghamton Mets, now the Rumble Ponies. The Mets would win Binghamton’s 1
1th Eastern League title in the stadium’s 1992 inaugural season. Adding to the title haul previously built by the Binghamton Triplets who played out of Johnson Field. Then in 1994 the stadium hosted the AA-Baseball All-Star Game bringing the best from all three Double-A leagues to the stadium. later that season the Mets would capture Binghamton’s 12th league championship. The stadium became known as NYSEG Stadium in March of 2001, after a naming rights deal was secured with the local utility company that helped keep baseball in Binghamton. The Mets would make the playoffs three more times, but not win Binghamton’s 13th league title until 2014. In 2016, the Binghamton Mets became the Binghamton Rumble Ponies as part of Major League Baseball’s move to protect their trademarks and force the name changes of independently / locally owned affiliates. In 2019, a multi-million dollar renovation of the stadium was unveiled to prepare it to host the 2020 Eastern League All-Star festivities. Those plans succumb, like that entire season, to the pandemic cancellation. On May 28th, 2021, after Binghamton survived baseball’s contraction and reorganization, a new naming rights deal was announced to make the stadium officially Mirabito Stadium. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies play 71 home games in the franchise’s 30th anniversary season in 2022.
