PEOPLE!!! I tell my boot campers this ALL the time!! Abs are made in the kitchen!! There is no exercise you can do to "tone" up you lower abdominals. Stop being tricked by the mainstream marketing and advertising gimmicks of companies that only want your money. EVERYTHING we do Fergie's Boot Camp is a "core" movement and everyone has abs. Some folks just have a little more fluff covering those muscles. The only way to show them is through a healthy diet with little to no sugar and starches like potatoes, pastas, and grains.
There are no such thing as lower abs. Unless you are speaking of the pyramidalis muscle which is absent in 20% of humans. So that means its not vitally important or strong for that matter. The hip flexors (iliacus, psoas, and re**us femoris) could be construed as "lower abs". But the re**us abdominis ( your 6 pack muscles ) contracts equally and consistently as one movement to pull the rib-cage towards the pelvis, or the pelvis towards the rib-cage in non-weight bearing. This re**us abdominis works like a cinch cord to pull the internal and external obliques in tight, so that the transverse abdominis can more effectively stabilize your pelvis and spine. Doing 3 minute abs, and sit-ups till your face turns blue will not help your core...you will only hurt your back eventually. The CORE can never reach its full potential until the the spine and pelvis are stabilized. Believe me- I don't have people do sit-ups, legs lifts, or any "lower ab" exercise until they can keep their lower backs in a neutral lordotic curve and there pelvis in neutral tilt as well. This is not how a lot of professionals approach this. THAT IS WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT. If you flatten or "imprint" your lower back to better feel/activate your core- then you might want to question your approach. The core reaches its true strength potential when the lordotic curve stays neutral like it has for 99.9% of Human History. When you teach your brain to keep this "slight inward arch" in your lower back while you are doing daily activities, exercise or rehab. . The BEST Method of Natural Human Pain-Free Movement.
