The Utah State University Western Equestrian Team is a competitive organization that is composed of dedicated USU students that want to compete at the highest levels of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). The team competes in western horsemanship, which is a discipline that exemplifies grace, elegance, balance, and focuses on a rider’s ability to perform on any horse. The open rider
s on the team are also able to compete in reining which attests to the versatility and overall ability of the rider. The IHSA includes members that range from beginning level equestrians to experienced level equestrians that all share a dedication to perfecting their western horsemanship skills in order to perform with confidence and competitiveness. The Western Equestrian Team offers an opportunity to all students, as you do not have to own a horse or be an equine major in order to compete. There is an annual meeting held at the beginning of each new school year to inform any equestrian riders about our organization, try-outs, and the qualifications for becoming a member.
