The Big Spring Lady Steers softball team put together one of their most complete offensive performances of the season Tuesday night, racking up 15 hits in a 10-0 win over the Lake View Maidens.
Big Spring came out swinging early and never let up. Jojo Gonzales and Jordan Johns supplied the power for the Steers as Gonzales launched a solo homer to lead off the third before Johns ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning for Big Spring with a walk-off grand slam. Johns finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in five and scoring twice.
Junior catcher Analia Hinojosa was just as dangerous, as the junior catcher had two doubles and a triple, scoring twice to set the tone for the relentless pressure of the Lady Steers offense. Brynlee Bryant and Sophie Ramirez collected two hits each, and Big Spring swiped four bases keeping the Maidens on their heels.
In the circle, Bryant and Monse Holguin combined for the shutout. Freshman Bryant struck out four over three innings without surrendering a walk, and Holguin slammed the door shut allowing only two hits and striking out two in her three innings of work.
Lake View ended the night with four hits, but where not able to string anything together against the lady Steers’ pitching. The Lady Steers controlled the game from the first pitch, backing its pitchers with a strong defensive effort.
With the win, Big Spring moves to 7-1 in district 5-4A action and will travel up to Lubbock to battle the Cooper Liberty Patriots this Thursday with a first pitch set for 6 P.M.
