At The Rut we have almost 100 medical and safety staff and volunteers who dedicate their time, expertise and skills over the course of Rut week to our runners and all who attended the event.

The core group is Big Sky Ski Patrol with additional help from volunteer EMTs, paramedics, nurses and physicians, as well as our local search and rescue.

They work so hard to keep people safe during the races and help them achieve their goals of reaching the Rut finish line.

We are so thankful for this incredible dedication to our event and we truly believe it is one of the best teams in the business!

Dear 2026 Rut Volunteers,

THANK YOU again for volunteering with us last weekend!

The Rut simply would NOT be possible without the time, energy, and enthusiasm you put into the event. Now that race weekend is behind us, we’d love to hear about your experience and learn what worked well and where we can make volunteering at The Rut even better.

Our short volunteer survey is open now through the end of day Thursday, September 24th and should only take a few minutes to complete. We read every response and will use your feedback as we start planning for 2027.

2026 Rut Runner post-race Survey is now open.

Please head your link in bio to complete it and go in the draw to win a Rut gear pack!

Thank you again for being part of the 2026 Rut Mountain Runs!
Now that the dust has settled (at least a little), we’d love to hear about your experience.
The Rut has always been shaped by the runners, volunteers, spectators, and community who show up each year, and your feedback helps us understand what worked, what didn’t, and where we can make the event better.

Our short post-race survey is open now through end of day Thursday, September 24 and should only take 3–4 minutes to complete.

We read every response and will use your feedback as we start planning for 2027.

As a small thank you, we’ll randomly select five respondents to receive some Rut gear.

"Through gusty winds and steep terrain you all persevered with smiles and gracious attitudes. Time and time again you thanked us for being out on course, well we want to thank you for having the heart and grit to get to the start line and give this race a go.
