Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service I am a professional, licensed and bonded independent guide serving the Eastern Sierra from Lone Pine Regis Montana in 2009.

Jarett Coons was born in Bishop California and has spent his life fishing the warm and cold waters from Lone Pine to Bridgeport Ca. He opened Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service shortly after graduating guide school in St. Now he can be found guiding his home waters for trout, carp, bass and bluegill. He is a member of the design team at Solitude Fly Company and creator of the Carp Coachman When

not guiding Jarett can be found hunting and camping with his family or donating his time at local kids fishing events like Trout in the Classroom and the Bishop Kids Fish Camp. Jarett has an extensive knowledge of the Eastern Sierra waters he grew up on and offers everything from warm water fly fishing to drifting the beautiful Owens River for trout.

Epic day on the Lower Owens with Steve!!! It was dry fly city today, no nymphs allowed!!! On the second cast, Steve connects with the Trico emerger. It didn't stop there, after a bit the action slowed so we changed to the trico dun to get the action going again. About an hour later, they switched over to the PMD, so we did too, Steve didn't break stride, he just kept catching!! Again, the action slowed a bit around 11am when they switched to eating trico spinners, so again, we did too! We spent the whole morning, in the same hole, whacking fish on dries. It was an awesome day, Steve had a blast catching and I had a blast keeping up with these finicky trout, changing their mind every 5 minutes. I love days like this!!!

This morning, Vincent and Michael experienced what we call "Roping Them". From the moment we checked depth, the bobber started going down and didn't stop the whole morning!!!
Michael quietly and calmly wrestled a beast of a rainbow!! He had it halfway to the net before he even made a peep to let me know he was bent!! But then we saw the thing and it was a whopper!!! It measured 25"s on my fishpond net and probably weighed about 5lbs but we didn't have a scale, nevertheless a fushbof a lifetime!!!!
Way to go boys!!!

David and Terry are finishing up a road trip, touring all the western states with their wives. I got to be their last fishing stop before heading home, so naturally, I had to take them to Crowley Lake.
The boys were new to midging, so we got to work learning how to check depth and cast.
We got good real quick as we had tons of practice, the bobber just wouldn't stay down!!
The wind never came up, so we got to fish the whole day. I dont know how many we caught, by the end, the boys had so many that they were ignoring grabs until they saw one they liked!!!
I was really stoked that I got to be a part of it and make their last trip something to remember.

Tommy and Shelly usually fish with me in December. Last time, it was cold and tough. The takes were barely visible and even though Shelly worked hard, she didn't catch a fish.
This year, we were having none of that, so we went to Crowley Lake to chase some brutes.
We motored out to a spot but it was a bit cramped, so we anchored out on the edge in a place I wasn't feeling.
The bobber wouldn't stop vibrating from little d**k trout that could hardly pull the bobber down, annoying but a great sign for the future!
We got out of there quick and went and looked for greener pastures.
We found a new spot, threw out and within a few minutes, we were under!!! Our bite was great!! Shelly was smacking them this time, there's no mistaking these takes! Shelly caught her biggest trout ever, we had 2 doubles and even setup a 3rd rod so Kopi could get a couple bobber downs!! In human years, he's under 16, so I don't think he needs a fishing license???

Jim S. Is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. We fish together at least once a year. But this time, he brought his daughters Jamie and Marie to try their hand at fly fishing.
Jim started things off with a bobber down to show the girls how it's done. The bite was steady, but takes were just far enough apart that right when you got distracted, the bobber would go down!
It took us a minute to find our rhythm, each time getting closer until we had it!
And , like always, the day went by way too fast.

Yesterday was really cool! Dan and Sharon have been following me for a few years now. We've talked on social media often but have never met, until yesterday! I finally got to take them out! It wasn't like meeting for the first time but more like connecting with an old friend.
The pressure was on for me, it is their first time fly fishing, it's Labor Day weekend, as well as a free fishing day and Dan's birthday was in a couple days! Here we go!!
The line at the gate was huge and went all the way back to the overpass, but luckily, I was first in line!
We got out of the marina very quickly and went and found a quiet place to fish.
At last, the bobbers were deployed and we were in! It wasn't long before I heard Dan yell "I'm on!!"
After a nice battle, it was in the net and Dan had an awesome Crowley Cutthroat for his first trout on the fly!!!
Then Sharon did the same!!!
The bite was steady all morning and by the end of our day, we had bagged several nice fish and never saw another angler the whole day!! Sharon almost got the Crowley Slam, just missing the perch!
It was one of the greatest days I've had in a while. Everything fell perfectly into place.

-Crowley Fish Foundation-
Yesterday we took 9 indigenous youth fishing at Crowley lake!! The bite was really tough, but they didn't bat an eye. They worked hard and were ready, when that bobber finally went down, they didn't miss!
Fishing is hungry work, so after our trip we took the kids and their parents out to dinner at The Back Alley Bowling in Bishop. As we finished up dinner, our two valedictorians
Turquoise and Pete were awarded brand new flyrod combos for their dedication and hard work over the past few months!!
This program was a huge success and the kids are already asking, "When are we going again!?"
I'd like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work in making this happen. Crowley Fish Foundation, Bishop Paiute Tribe, our generous donor Chad Warrick for providing the rods and dinner, all the guides who helped out, all the parents who brought their kids and anyone I missed...thank you!!!
