The Faces That Built bluespot Pt. II

7 years ago, we locked the doors of our Main Street studio for the very last time.

Just months earlier, we had unexpectedly lost our lease. Everything happened fast, and suddenly we were scrambling to figure out where bluespot would go next.

What makes the story even wilder is that 396 N. Cassady — “the gas station” — was the initial space I wanted back in 2015 but at the time, it wasn’t available.

Then years later, in the middle of the scramble, I got a text:

“Are you still interested in the gas station?”

It felt — and still feels — serendipitous.

This reel captures that transition:
our final class on Main Street,
introducing 396 N. Cassady,
the construction,
and our very first class in the new space.

At the end of that final Main Street class, the room ended up singing “End of the Road” together — a moment I’ll never forget.

And when I walked out afterward, my mom, dad, aunt, and uncle were standing outside the doors with roses in hand, ready to help me pack up the final pieces of that chapter.

7 years later, I still can’t fully believe what this community has built together.

𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗵𝗶𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻…

and the light slowly starts finding its way back in.

It takes a full day to shift everything over for summer.

Opening the curtains.
Cleaning the windows.
Resetting the space.

Then the kids show up to “help”…
which mostly means creating chaos while we try to work.

There’s something about this season that changes the feeling of the studio completely.

𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵.
𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.

This is summer at bluespot ☀️

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 > 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Some days you show up tired and unmotivated.�But you walk into a warm, dimly lit room… You lie down… You breathe… maybe for the first time all day, you don’t have to do anything.

We ease you in.�Out of your head, into your body.

And then somewhere along the way — without forcing it —�you’re moving, you’re sweating, you’re in it.

That’s why it works.

You don’t need motivation to start.�You just need to show up.

9 times out of 10, the practice creates the motivation for you.�And on the days it doesn’t?

Take child’s pose.�Sit. Breathe. Be in the room.

You don’t have to push — just stay.

1. Just a fun shot with some of my favorite ladies. Julie was baking a baby Mag 🥧.

2. I grabbed Abra’s leg and said “resist me”—she mouthed, “f*ck you.”

3. Remember when we tried to come back from Covid without lavender towels? You all said hellllll no. Touché.

4. Here’s where it gets good… so natural.

𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 — 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟲 🎉 (𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁)

As we get closer, I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic… so here are a few behind-the-scenes moments from a shoot in 2019—right after we moved from Main St. into the garage:

1. Eva Golden — ride or die from day one. If you ask her, she willed both my daughter and our golden (Penny!) into the world. She’s not wrong.

2. I was 5 months pregnant with Marlee during this shoot.

3. I kept my half pony flipped up the entire class. At the time, I was constantly calling people out for fidgeting, so fixing my hair felt like the only way to stay in solidarity with my students.
 Today, I’d fix it—and still call it out.

4. Julie in standing head to knee — started as a student, became a teacher, still here.

5. Kyle Caution — to know him is to love him. He moved a few years ago, but we love when he comes back to visit.

6. And best for last… this was 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝘆’𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝟮𝟲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀—and I scheduled a full photoshoot.
 Still not sure she’s forgiven me (it’s been 7 years).

10 years later… still here, still evolving, still building something we believe in.
