Went to Small Town Pastry to pickup a hidden gem! Their chicken shawarma! It’s my wife’s favorite. You wouldn’t guess it, but we often venture over here not just for a cookie or lemon bar, but the food. I know people locally love the pastries, but I’d have to say the best kept secret is some of their food. Admittedly, I think I have only tried the shawarma, but it’s never let us down.

I have been considering starting a series to highlight small, local food people or places. I want to call the series “famous friends” and basically it would be me doing a short interview with the person who is being highlighted and then making or trying some of their food with them. This would let you know more about the person beyond the 90 second videos I make of places I eat. If interested send me a message. I will probably not be able to get back to everyone immediately. I might have just had one of the best cinnamon rolls in my life. From Dough Boyz QC - this man is the bread whisper! I have never had anything quite like these before. They are worth every bite. All organic sugar, grass fed butter, organic flower, cage free eggs, and make with detail and care. The vanilla bean cream on top has depth in every bite, but doesn’t over power it. The cinnamon roll itself is beautifully baked and the quality is evident. I would go out of my way for these. I think you can find him located at the Freight House Farmers Market on Saturdays and maybe Sunday too.

He was kind enough to give some to me and provide feedback and I was absolutely blown away. So much so that a car pulled up and I waved them down to go ahead and try it for themselves (no way I should eat all these myself). I don’t have any feedback other than I absolutely love them. I type this as I think about taking another bite 😂. Quad cities this is the real deal!
