Congratulations to Nesa who will be wrestling this Thursday and Friday at the IGHSAU State Tournament. Tentative Brackets will be released later today. Nesa is now a 4x State Qualifier and 3x Regional Champ.

For the rest of our team, there’s so much to be proud of. We have seven girls who are finishing their season with a winning record.

- Olivia Hernandez finished her junior year 33-9. Olivia won multiples tournaments this year and has so much to be proud of.

- Zoe Hamilton went 34-6 in her freshman year. Zoe also played basketball all year. She finds just as much success on the basketball court.

- Maillaynnie Green finished her senior year with a record of 26-13. For being 10+ pounds less than majority of her opponents, Maillaynnie always found a way to be competitive

- Sariyah Wolf caps off a really successful freshman season finishing with a record of 32-16.

- Keira Cewe battled an injury all year and was still able to finish up with a 16-8 record.

- Charlotte Smith finished her junior year with a record of 21-13. Charlotte had a lot of big wins towards the end of the season.

- Sofia Boddy finishes the season with a 25-22 record. Pretty cool note on Sofia, she went 15-6 from January 6th on.

- Lauren Pitzer, Olivia McGivern, Emilee Knutsen and Mady Cullison all wrestled so hard at Regionals and all year long. All four of these girls contributed to our team in so many ways.

Bettendorf girls had three duals last night against Pleasant Valley, Assumption and North Scott.

First dual:

Third dual:

Bettendorf 49 North Scott 30

Olivia Hernandez, Nesa Selmani, Sariyah Wolf, Charlotte Smith and Zoe Hamilton went 3-0 on the night.

State Recap:

State is always an emotional roller coaster. I couldn’t be more proud of the way our three state qualifiers competed. Some of this is a recap, but there’s a lot of new information as well. Before I get going, I just want to take the time to thank all the wrestlers, parents, coaches and anyone involved with our season. Thank you so much for everything.

Maillaynnie Green (100 pounds) finished off her tournament going 0-2. She finished her Junior season 34-11, Regional Champ and a State Qualifier. That’s something to be so proud of. The ceiling is endless for Maillaynnie. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for her.

Taylor Strief (110 pounds) went 3-2 and finished her junior year with a dominant win and a 5th place finish at the state tournament. Taylor finishes her Junior year 25-4. Adversity is something that always comes up in the sport of wrestling. This year for Taylor it came up a lot and she overcame it every time. That speaks to way more than just the wrestler you are, it speaks to the person you are.

Nesa Selmani (120 pounds) went 5-1 and finished her junior year with another dominant win and a 3rd place finish at the state tournament. Nesa finished her junior year 43-4. I spoke about adversity with Taylor, and losing a match you’re not expected to lose is a really hard thing to handle at the state tournament. Nesa turned around and outscored her remaining four opponents 28-3. That also speaks to so much more than your skill as a wrestler. It speaks about your character, your determination and what you knew you deserved.

I’m so proud of this team and believe it or not I’m already thinking about next year…

Again, thank you all so much for everything. I appreciate all the continuous support our program and girls get. Now let’s go cheer on our boys!

Update from Day 1 at State:

Maillaynnie Green (100 pounds) finished off her tournament today going 0-2. She finished her Junior season 34-11, Regional Champ and a State Qualifier. That’s something to be so proud of. I’m so excited to see what the future holds for Maillaynnie.

Taylor Strief (110 pounds) went 2-0, with two pins and will be wrestling in the semis tomorrow morning!

Nesa Selmani (120 pounds) went 2-1, and is wrestling back for 3rd place!

We have two state medalist no matter what, now we just keep climbing up the podium.

Wrestling will start at 10 am tomorrow and finals will be at 6 pm. Go Bulldogs!
