As Sabina was going through her struggle with anorexia we spent a lot of time talking hoping to help her rekindle self love and keep her fire burning through her love of gymnastics.
On her first day back to full training, she was visibly excited but worried about how it would go, and frustrated that her experience caused her to miss her entire season, one which she worked tremendously hard to prepare for after overcoming two ankle surgeries with screws prior to attending our club.
Coach Mihael talked to her about how now she feels in over her head, like she was down in very deep water. He asked her if she ever dove down deep and had to swim back up. She said yes. He asked if it felt so challenging that she had a moment she felt she wouldn’t make it and she said yes. Then he asked her but did you ever go down very deep and touch the bottom? She said yes. He said when you got to the bottom you could push off, did that make coming up easier? And she responded yes much easier. And he looked at her and said, that is where you are now, you reached the very bottom, now it’s your time to push off.
From that day forward her spirits have been lifted and with his guidance she has began adding skills back day by day. We are so happy that combined with her sheer determination, her preparation prior to this horrible occurrence and her functional/mental training afterwards are allowing her to not only meet where she left off, she is improving rapidly.
Today was her first day working this front full step out pass and within a short rotation, she was able to connect a 1 1/2 by herself!
If you thought she sneak preview of her floor was amazing last year, just wait because this girl is on fire 🔥
