Relyance Skim Camp

We are Dave and Tom Bracht, the owners of RELYance Skim Camp. We are two brothers that grew up landlocked in central Pennsylvania, of all places!

We quickly learned that there is no ocean in PA, but were fortunate in that our parents took us camping at the beach in Delaware for a week or two every summer. One day as we were building sandcastles, we watched a kid with a little round skimboard sliding back and forth on the edge of the water. It looked like fun, so we asked if we could try, and instantly we were hooked. Fast forward 13 to 14 y

ears and the Bracht Brothers are professional skim boarders riding for Exile Skimboards. One thing that is strong in our hearts is our passion for helping others. We started RELYance Skim Camp as an alternative to the everyday skimboard instructional camp. We RELY on God and wanted to not only teach what we love to do, skimboarding, but also give kids positive role models to look up to. We want kids to learn to stay true to themselves, never give up on their dreams, and that anything is possible through hard work; look at us. We hope that you will join us as we try to make a difference in lives through skimboarding!

This morning at camp, our staff sported shirts from Dewey Beach Surf Shop in support of ‘s recovery. Tyler got into a scooter accident recently and was seriously injured. It would mean a lot to all of us if you would all visit and shop to support Tyler and his family on the long road they have ahead of them. Thank you all!

With summer quickly approaching and the uncertainty of what is happening with Covid-19, we at RELYance have made the painstaking decision to cancel all of the camps for the summer of 2020. This decision has definitely caused our family quite a few sleepless nights, but with the safety of our campers and staff being our foremost concern, we came to this conclusion with a heavy heart. We wish we were gearing up for another amazing summer, however, we must act in compliance with Governor Carney’s mandate that summer camps are to be closed until phase 2 of the reopening plan (which is when schools would also welcome students back to classrooms). It is only fair for us to make this decision now, so that both the campers and counselors can adjust their summer plans. Everyone who has already signed up for camp this summer will be receiving a refund within the next week via PayPal. With the unpredictable nature of what is and isn’t being permitted on the Delaware beaches with Covid-19, we are hoping to still be able to offer private lessons and/or small group lessons at some point during the summer. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough information about the beaches to say confidently whether or not and when this will be an option. Crazy times these days but just wanted everyone to know we hope and plan on running Relyance Skim Camp this summer as usual.
