Been quite a while since I posted a fishing report. The past 10 days or so the fishing has been very good for Stripers and big Bluefish. Trips have been mid sound, around the Gulls, the Race, and the Gut. Working the rock piles, edges on drop offs and looking for birds hovering over feeding fish has been successful. Small peanut bunker and silversides are the mainstay bait right now. Flies are my own peanut pattern in grey/silver and olive flat wings for Stripers. When Bluefish are around, big poppers with 6-8” of wire are a lot of fun.
Yesterday, fishing north of Great Gull, a small Bonito swiped a dead drifted flat wing, missed and came back hooking itself and shredding the fly.
My humble outlook is with the amount of bait around now, Albies should be in the mix within the next couple of weeks. Stay safe on the water.

Very good morning on the Farmington, great weather and water conditions. Even the trout cooperated. Fished bead head, pheasant tails, hares ear, Perigon, and fuzzy wuzzies.
Had a favorite run all to myself, closest angler over 100 yards downstream. Expect the weekend to be crowded. Please take your trash with you, and pickup some yourself!!!

Spent a terrific morning yesterday fishing with Captain Scott Sylvester of http://www.greatislandflyfishing.com/ out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Captain Scott is a true professional fly fishing guide, very knowledgeable about the Piscagtuqua River estuary, and time on the water with Captain Scott was a pleasure. Although we didn't boat any large Stripers the action was steady throughout the morning. I highly recommend greatislandflyfishing.com to anyone interested in fly fishing for Striped Bass on the New Hampshire seacoast.

Two foot seas yesterday, made for a bumpy ride, unsteady casting platform, but the Fat Alberts came out to play. Below is a simple, but effective pattern to match Bay Anchovies.

June 30, 2018. Very nice morning on Outer Bartlett's Reef. Found Stripers slapping and cartwheeling as daylight just cleared the horizon. Several acres of blitz-like feeding in an East West direction as the tide continued to move out. Took a couple of tries in low light to figure out the baitfish. Turned out quarter sized Butterfish were on the breakfast menu. Trimmed up some of my own style mush mouths, and quickly connected. For the next 2 hours or so, the fishing was fast. Most fish were in the cookie cutter size of 18-24 inches, there were larger fish taking advantage of the hapless bait. Fishing came to an end at slack tide and the horde of weekend boaters churned up the water as they headed south. No regard for the safety of the 4-5 boaters anchored of drifting on the. The photo represents a slightly larger fish of 29 inches. The fish was quickly released in excellent shape.
