River Run, Gary Player’s bump & run style of play is showcased at his 18 hole 6,705-yard masterpiece and is one of the legendary golf experiences in the Ocean City area. A friendly warm-up on the par-35 front nine, modeled after the links style found in Scotland, is followed by a

sterner test of majestic tree-lined fairways and natural marshes found on the homeward nine. Make no mistake, the front nine is not lacking in drama with holes like the downhill par-3 fourth hole, playing its entire length over water at 222 yards from the back tees, and the 384-yard, par-4 seventh, a slight dogleg right with water in play on both the drive and second shots. River Run’s contrasting back nine rolls through wooded terrain and the signature hole can be found at the 13th, this par-4 requires a precise shot off the tee to leave you with a lofted iron approach shot over marshland to a shallow green that is guarded in the front and on two sides by marsh and water. Want faster clubhead speed? Try this 30-second fix right on the tee box:

1. Grab a club, hold it horizontally out in front of you for balance.
2. Sink into a shallow quarter-squat (your golf athletic posture).
3. Hold for 15 seconds, actively squeezing your glutes at the bottom.
4. Do 5 fast, explosive bodyweight jumps or dynamic hip-hinges.

These moves fire up your posterior chain so you can actually drive through the ball and transfer power from the ground up, rather than dragging the club with your arms.

Gary Player created a course that is very enjoyable to play. The golf course is sometimes called a “tale of two nines” with its open front nine and tighter back side that winds through the timber. The course is fair for the beginner, but it is certainly no walk in the park for the scratch player. The greens are medium-sized and not especially difficult; the fairways are generous from the tee and modestly bunkered. There are a few lakes to avoid and some marshy areas, which are common when you're only seven miles from the ocean.

Let's face it... there is no shortage of Ocean City golf courses… however I can assure you that you will be hard pressed to find a better track than what you'll play here. If you like smooth fast Bent Grass greens… you're going to love playing here!
