Sunday Shoutout goes to this sister duo Dorothy & Isabel! Whether they’re showing up together or putting in the work on their own, these two always bring the same thing: strength, commitment, and a willingness to push themselves. They challenge each other, encourage each other, and somehow even manage to show up twinning! We’re lucky to have these two as part of the SIN family!! 💪❤️🏋🏻‍♂️🏋🏻‍♂️💥💪

Our Check In for Charity for September and October is Benhaven Academy, a cause that is near and dear to the hearts of SIN members Kari Sassu and Yana Strevens, whose sons attend the school.
What makes Benhaven special is the way students are truly met where they are and supported by caring staff who recognize their individual strengths, encourage their goals, and help them grow academically and socially on their own terms. As Kari shared, “My son shows up as himself & is recognized as the capable, kind person he is.” Daniel, Yana’s son, describes his teachers as caring, fair and always willing to help their students.
Donations to Benhaven help provide students and families with opportunities and resources that enrich their lives, including fitness and recreational activities, art classes, social outings, therapeutic materials, and other programs that support personal growth, independence and connection.
For every Facebook check-in, SIN Fitness will donate 50¢ to Benhaven Academy. Your check-ins help provide fitness and recreational activities, social outings, therapeutic materials, and other resources that support students’ growth, independence, and well-being.

September Member of the Month is Janice Drescher! Janice has made so much progress since joining SIN Fitness, and it’s no surprise when you see the hard work and consistency she puts in! She is always up for a challenge, crushes our fitness challenges, jumps into Team Comps, and continues to push herself to get stronger. She has also made some great friendships at the gym and is always willing to look out for her people. She has even babysat so a friend could make it to their workout, now that is teamwork! ❤️Janice is an awesome member who shows up, puts in the work, and keeps challenging herself. We’re so proud of the progress she has made and all she continues to accomplish! Congratulations, Janice! You earned it! 🎉💪
How long have you been coming to SIN Fitness?
I’ve been a member of SIN for about 4.5 years.
How would you describe your lifestyle before SIN Fitness? How would you describe it now?

My lifestyle before SIN was moderately active. I’m a teacher and a mom of two boys (now grown men) so I was always on the go, but not moving or eating in the right way. My fitness routine consisted of running 3-4 times a week to keep my weight under control. But once I got plantar fasciitis and my knees started to really hurt I had to downgrade to walking. I also would do an occasional 5-to-10-pound dumbbell set in my basement with a video. I was unlucky in that menopause and COVID hit around the same time. I struggled with weight gain, low energy, and poor sleep—all while neglecting my own self-care. I prioritized my family over my overall health.
Now I have made my overall health a high priority. I want to be as healthy and strong as possible as I head into older age/retirement. My SIN workout routine is now part of my self-care. I workout five days a week and intentionally plan my nutrition. I track my macros and plan both my meals and workouts every single week, a structured routine that fuels my progress and keeps me energized after a full day of teaching middle school.

If you could design your perfect workout what would it be?
My perfect workout is a YGIG rock’n row rotating weights with rowing with a partner. Row is a sprint for about 30 secs and weights are heavy. Rest is the walk back to the rower. Good 10 minute stretch at beginning, 30 minutes non-stop workout, then 5 minute cool down stretch.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of starting at SIN Fitness?
1. Start off at your own level and talk with the coach to pick the right weights for your age/ability. All of the coaches are all very helpful and are there to help you correct your form or modify the exercise to suit your needs.
2. Be sure to have a notebook and write down your workouts. This helps you save time during the next class and is evidence over time that you are improving!
3. Set reasonable short-term and long-term goals and focus on yourself. Your goals will depend on your age and physical abilities. Try not to compare yourself to anyone else in class. For me there is always someone younger, stronger, and smaller in the class. Accept yourself and pick one thing to improve for 4 weeks and one thing to improve for the year.
4. Plan your workouts for the week and stick with the plan. Make a friend in your class to help you stay motivated and accountable. The best thing I ever did was become accountability partners with Abigail Perez.
What’s a win you’re most proud of since starting at SIN?
I have 2:
1. I can now do at least 10 proper unassisted push ups. Thanks to Coach Eric for helping me reach that goal this year. My goal for 2027 is 1 unassisted pull up.
2. Thanks to the SIN weight loss challenges I can fit back into clothes I wore before I had kids (28 years ago)! The support SIN coaches give during these challenges is fantastic. Through the challenges, I learned about macros and how my eating habits could be improved. I really appreciate the group sharing high protein recipes and tips like using Celtic salt in my water not electrolyte powders.
What keeps you coming back on the days you don’t feel like it?
For me, showing up on low-energy days comes down to three things:
Instant Stress Relief: Coming straight from a classroom of middle schoolers, walking through those doors is my ultimate daily reset button. Whatever stress accumulated during the school day instantly melts away once the workout starts.
My Fitness Family: I know the afternoon crew—Abby, Vic, Kate, Meredith, Anthony, and Bridget to name a few, will be there waiting, and that shared energy is contagious. We’ve developed friendships sweating together and this crew keeps me accountable.
The Community & Gratitude:Remembering how far I’ve come, feeling strong, dropping 20 pounds over 4 years, and building the endurance to hike many miles with my husband and sons, reminds me that working out is non-negotiable self-care. Plus, this community helped me through caring for my elderly parents (thanks to Ryan for giving me weights and routine I could do on my own) and losing my dad last summer, so walking into SIN Fitness always feels like I’m taking time to take care of myself.

💪 Sunday Shoutout goes out to Abby Perez! Abby has been showing up and putting in the work in Power Hour every single week, even with heading back to school! And this week, all that consistency paid off, she knocked out her first TWO unassisted pull-ups! That’s what consistency and determination look like. Keep putting in the work, Abby! We’re so proud of you! 💪🏋🏻‍♂️💥 berlinct itsallinberlin
