"Plastic-wrapped newspaper in hand, I turned toward the commotion and find myself staring into the face of a coyote, which shoots me a quick sidelong glance as it passes by me mere feet away, rocking along in that characteristic lope with which coyotes go through the world, close enough to pepper my legs with dislodged gravel as it digs in to swerve past me. I register hot yellow eyes and something in its mouth. Maybe it's the neighbor's cat, although in the dim light it looks more like a trip of tallboys dangling from plastic six-pack rings." What kind of beer do you think a coyote would enjoy?

We had a great time with yesterday afternoon at Cabela's! Attendees learned the importance of small green spaces be it a few planters on your back porch or going all out with full lawn revivals. From there we learned how to get started on your own green space, keystone species and why they are so important, and how to care for the area as it establishes. The Rockland crew had native plugs for sale out front for those tenacious enough to dive in right away. I was able to hand out quite a few free mixed seed packets as well!

Rockland Roots graciously donated 50$ from their plant sales to Artemis Sportswomen to help us keep doing what we love; getting more women out and caring for mother!

Rockland Roots has their official season opener May 1st-3rd. I urge you all to show up and show these amazing ladies your support and buy some plants!

As the cold loudly leaves and allows the world a few moments to breath deep; we may start to find those that may not have made it out of the dark days.

Transitional periods between the seasons always hold some sort of magic to them, especially the move from Winter to Spring. As you walk amongst the decay of leaves and creatures that had befallen the winter you also see new life springing fourth. The dead turning to fuel for the next cycle, a cycle that carries the memory of their existence.

We went for a walk through Frog Hollow and found this young deer skeleton who fancied the creekside was a lovely place to lie down. We also found wild daffodils and skunk cabbages start to reach for the sunshine.

Had a blast at the mentored woman's squirrel Hunt hosted by PA Wild Women/PA game commission! Although it was unseasonably warm at a cozy 60 degrees we were able to spot a fox squirrel. My mentee is fresh to the world of hunting and despite not taking home a harvest still learned a lot from the experience from gunmanship, safety, and wildlife scouting.

Pennsylvania has finally welcomed a proper ice season this year, and I'll be damned if a wind-chill chases me away from it. Currently sitting on 6+ inches of crystal clear ice, enjoying some hot cocoa, and watching the snow fall.
No catches yet but a big old sucker fish came up to investigate, which was very cool to watch swim under the ice.
