Anderson 8th Grade Girls Basketball started off the season with a tough Royal Oak opponent for game one. Great defense and an 18 point scoring performance from Niqco Shoulders led the way as the Vikings edged out a 23-18 win at home!

The coaching staff is so proud of our wonderful, unselfish, hardworking group of 17 athletes that refused to let a surprising mid-season 1 point loss keep them down. We regrouped, found out who we really were, and went on a terror to end the season scoring an average of 32 points per game and allowing only 12 over a 6-0 stretch. Take some time to appreciate this 9-2 season. Soak in the 2nd place finish. You never lost at home. Not one opponent stood on YOUR Anderson court and celebrated. That green side of your jerseys is undefeated. Rest up. Then get back in the gym and work on your craft. We have more goals to achieve next year on Berkley Women's Basketball.

Who wouldn’t want to be a Viking?

10/25/2023

Tonight was bittersweet. We accomplished our season goal of an 8 win season, and also cliched 2nd place with a 28-18 upset win over one of our bigggest rivals, the favored Clarenceville. Tonight was special, but while we celebrated great success we began our realization that this awesome group of 17 Vikings was playing their last game on the home Anderson court. The majority of these girls are my Berkley Hoops kids that the community has seen rise into stars. They have brought Anderson to a Powerhouse level that shows no signs of stopping.

The 7th grade team of 16 girls is undefeated. This is just the beginning.

We retired the numbers of 4 Anderson 8th Grade Greats tonight:

Kamrin Evans #34: ā€œThe Quarterbackā€. Kamrin was a captain this year and has done nothing but win at Anderson. Two 8 win seasons on the 7th grade team and came into 8th to completely come full circle running our offense inside out. We put the ball in her hands to make the scoring/passing decisions.

Kaylin Evans #42: ā€œThe Enforcerā€. Kaylin equally earned those 7th grade wins with her sister and as an 8th Grade Viking is fast and strong and uses those long arms to cover a ton of ground in a difficult defense to run. The 4 spot does a lot of running and she added a toughness to it that makes scoring against us very difficult.

Maggie McAskin #3: ā€œThe Iron Vikingā€. As a three year starter and 2 year captain all on the 8th Grade team, Maggie is a rare special player. She’s been leading this team as long as I’ve been the coach, and it’s going to be strange next year without her running point. She’s a vicious defender and one of the cornerstones of the press defense that us Vikings are known for.

Molly McAskin #3 ā€œThe OGā€. Molly was an 8th Grade captain on my first Vikings team in 2021. Many times I’d pair her and Maggie together to double team the ball handler because they understood the press defense perfectly and were jump-ball machines. At that time Molly wore the 3 and Maggie wore the 4. After Molly graduated, the next year I went to hand Maggie #4, and she said, ā€œCoach, can I wear Molly’s 3?ā€ Of course you can. It belongs to both of you now.

Congratulations! Let’s finish this battle strong tomorrow vs Norup. !!!!

Two more wins and two more 30+ point performances have Anderson 8th grade at 7-2!

31-13 over Farmington East
32-19 over Farmington Power

Both were away games in hostile environments and the girls took care of business. We need to win only one of the last two games to clinch 2nd place. 7 wins is the most by 8th grade girls at Anderson since 2011. At the start of the season the goal was to win 8 games… let’s go get it! !!

Since Coach Rowlett
2021 Anderson 8th Grade Girls: 4 - 6

2022 Anderson 8th Grade Girls: 6 - 5

Anderson 8th improved to 5-2 with a 32-15 win over Farmington STEAM. The game was under control early and we got to spread around the playing time. We gave up a few late buckets to make the score look closer than it was. Two tough road games next week vs EAST and Power, but we’re playing good basketball and are ready for the challenge.

Congrats to 7th grade for also taking care of business vs STEAM. !!

The 8th Grade Vikings had a ton of fun and returned to their winning ways on Tuesday with a 38-9 victory over Hazel Park. We stand at 4-2 and need to win 4 of the last 5 to guarantee a 2nd place finish. It’s a race to 8! !!

Surprising top team Oak Park had risen to the #3 spot setting up an epic matchup vs the #2 Vikings down the road on Scotia. Oak Park has 8 players that can all play, and on most nights they will get the win. Not against our Vikings though. We played our best game of the year winning 33-25 as Kamrin and Kaylin Evans were just too much for them. Sammy and Emily Kacin stepped up as well and our twin powers secured an amazing win on the road.

7th grade also won making both squads 3-0 as more eyes turn to Anderson Middle School as the new powerhouse in girls basketball.

Big thanks to Coach Clay Shaver of Berkley Women's Basketball for the great pictures and in game updates. The 8th grade Vikings fought through some self-inflicted adversity to gut one out over the gritty Hawks, 16-12. It was a much needed win for the team to stay in their #2 ranking and was sparked by the defense of 3rd year 8th grade player, captain Maggie McAskin.

The 7th grade Vikings put on a show to also earn a 2-0 start to the season. Great scoring and defense by Raelyn Reichelt and Reagen Skipton led the way.
