DragonMax is a part of the Berkeley Racing Canoe Center located in the Berkeley Marina. DragonMax is and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m and 10:30 a.m.

DragonMax Dragon Boat Club is affiliated with the Berkeley Racing Canoe Center (BRCC) in Berkeley California. Dragon Boating is a fun way to exercise and socialize or compete at any age. In association with BRCC, DragonMax practices Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7p.m. We are open to anyone interested in becoming a Dragon Boater at any level! Located at M-dock in the Berkeley Marina, BRCC owns 5 drag

on boats, 7 OC-1 single-person outrigger canoes, 2 OC-2 outrigger canoes, several single kayaks, and one time trial canoe. All boats are available for use by qualified members at no charge beyond the annual membership fee. Dragon boats are close replicas of ancient Chinese river commerce boats. BRCC's boats are 48 ft long (not counting the ornamental head and tail), with seats for up to 24 paddlers plus a drummer and a steersperson. BRCC hosts the DragonMax dragon boat team. The founding members of DragonMax come from DieselFish and from the Berkeley Dragons. One of the benefits of independence is local control of operating rules, and this allows BRCC to relax CDBA's strict age limits for participation. BRCC is friendly and accommodating to families and to supervised young children. In addition to the DragonMax team, BRCC hosts the Albany School team and a corporate teams representing AT&T and Bayer. Interested in paddling with us? Tuesday: 6pm - 7pm
Wednesday: 11am-12pm
Thursday: 6pm - 7pm

A big Year of the Rabbit THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the Dragon Boat Experience at Berkeley Yacht Club. Attendance was several times larger than what we first expected, but I think everyone had a good time. We counted something over 650 people on the water for the hands-on paddling experience between 10:30 and 1:00 pm.

Special thanks to all the volunteers from the Berkeley Racing Canoe Center who made this happen, and also to our three distinguished dignitaries for their participation in the Lion Dance ceremony: Rashi Kesarwani (District 1 Councilperson), Terry Taplin (District 2 Councilperson), and Modesto Covarrubias (Chair of the Civic Arts Commission). The Civic Arts Commission funded the event, please support their various public art and culture projects going forward.

For those of you who would like to follow up with more dragon boat paddling: The next public opportunity is the Berkeley Bay Festival on Saturday April 22, 11-4. It’s back after three years of pandemic cancellations.
