Salmon Fishing:
Over the last two weeks the salmon fleet has been fishing the area above PT Reyes, with huge success and big scores. “But last Sunday” things seemed to change, only a few boats scored well, and those boats were all out of Berkeley. The EL dorado, New EL Dorado III and the New Easy Rider scored well above the average of the bay area fleet and posted a combined score of 76 salmon for 49 anglers.
On Monday (6/23) the fleet motored south along the San Mateo coastline and nailed a new school moving into the stacks of anchovies just outside the Pacifica Pier in 70 ft of water. The scores for the week for the entire fleet bounced right back. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday the fleet scored easy limits and most were tied up by noon. The fish are of mixed quality with many going into the 10 -to 12lbs class. The action along the San Mateo coast has been solid, and with the salmon moving closer to our coast, the rides are much shorter.,
Pot Luck / Halibut
The live bait fishing remains great, scores of halibut in the flats, and limits of striped bass on the rock piles. This has been the action for the past week. The faster tides last week contributed to the big scores of bass on the rocks in the morning hours. Then later in the day, slower tidal movement of the waters are providing longer drifts in the Berkeley and Emeryville flats., The charter boats that are live bait fishing are finding halibut in all of the choice areas of the bay.
The halibut that are landed in the deeper waters are between 8-15 lbs and the bass are averaging about 7-9 lbs.
