π§ββοΈ International Yoga Day πβ¨
Every year on June 21, people around the world come together to celebrate International Yoga Day, recognizing the profound impact yoga has on physical health, mental well-being, and spiritual growth.
Yoga originated in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago and was first mentioned in sacred texts known as the Vedas. Over centuries, it evolved into a holistic practice that integrates movement, breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness to create harmony between the body and mind.
In 2014, the United Nations officially proclaimed June 21 as International Yoga Day following a proposal by Narendra Modi. The date was chosen because it is the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphereβthe longest day of the year and a symbol of light, energy, and renewal.
Today, yoga is practiced by millions of people across cultures, ages, and backgrounds. While styles and traditions may vary, the essence remains the same: cultivating awareness, balance, resilience, and inner peace.
This International Yoga Day, take a moment to:
πΏ Breathe deeply
πΏ Move mindfully
πΏ Embrace stillness
πΏ Connect with yourself and others
Yoga reminds us that true wellness is not just about physical fitnessβit's about creating harmony within ourselves and with the world around us.
"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self." β Bhagavad Gita
