I started drinking in college when I was 19. (Sorry mom & dad!) And pretty much didn’t stop until I hit 40. After the parties stopped and the babies came, I drank to relax, to quiet my brain and my anxiety.
One day, my friend Sarah asked if I would like to try a 30 day no alcohol challenge. She wanted to try it and wanted a buddy. I said sure! It took me several attempts to just make it past two weeks. I couldn’t understand why it was so hard for me to stop drinking.
Fast forward to Covid and most of life falling apart - I knew that if I didn’t get sober, I was going to end up an alcoholic. I finally made it past 30 days and ended up with 5 full years of sobriety from alcohol.
Nowadays, my relationship with alcohol is much better. I’m mostly sober and can recognize that alcohol has very little positive effects on my life.
In October, I’m hosting a Sober October group to discuss the book The Alcohol Experiment by Annie Grace. We’ll walk together through a month of sobriety, examining our relationship with alcohol and the reasons why we use it.
You can sign up online through Yoga Story and I’ll put it in my info above too so you can join us! Local or non local welcome!
