As usual, the Muleskinner Gravel Classic did not disappoint! We were greeted with beautiful weather, chunky gravel and yes, the hills. Even better was that this event supports the development of the next generation of riders!

Five Vandoit racers toed the start line for a fantastic day of racing, and a lively post-race refuel with pizza and refreshments.

Don Wasinger - Top 35, Men's Open 68 mile
Brian Lesage - Top 65, Men's Open 68 mile
Steve Songer - 3rd, Master's Men 50+ 68 mile
Steve Wathke -Top 30, Master's Men 50+ 68 mile
John Wentling - 9th, Master's Men 50+ 33 mile

Thank you Move Up Cycling Club for another excellent event!
Special thanks to Dan Hughes and Randy Braley for the fantastic photos!

Spoke Pony Showdown is back for 2026. During the heyday of endurance racing, the Spoke Pony Showdown was more of a sprint marathon than some of the longer format races. Although the race was shorter, the trails dominated riders with our famous KC limestone tech. Racers also battled heat, mechanical disasters, cramps, and exhaustion. The memories were never just about overall results. They were also about the crazy trailside props; who was going to win the fastest lap, fastest women’s lap, or fastest night lap; or maybe who was going to bonk so they’d have to walk it in. After it was all done and awards were handed out, the camaraderie continued late into the early hours of the next day.

This year’s Spoke Pony Showdown will also help support the Heartland Outside and Bike Stop organizations that continue to grow and protect the cycling and outdoor community here in Kansas City. From trail construction, maintenance, advocacy and community connection to making bikes and outdoor spaces more accessible, they help create the very community that made races like Spoke Pony possible in the first place.

Steve Tilford was a cyclist who refused to be defined by a single discipline. Over the course of his career, he competed in road racing, mountain biking, cyclocross, and gravel. The events that resonated most with him were not simply difficult, but distinctive. They had a clear sense of identity, brought people together, and felt meaningful to those who took part.

The Steve Tilford Foundation Epic is built with those same values in mind. While the racing at the front is competitive, the event is open to anyone willing to challenge themselves. The course design intentionally brings riders back through Snake Farm Ranch multiple times throughout the day. This allows friends and family to remain connected to the race, see riders as the event unfolds, and offer encouragement that provides a tangible lift to those on course.

The Epic also serves as a fundraiser supporting the work of the Steve Tilford Foundation. This includes the Let’s Ride! program, which provides bicycles and helmets to second graders at Title I schools, helping remove one of the initial barriers to participation in cycling.

By lining up at the start, riders become part of this mission. Participation in the event is not only about racing, but about supporting practical, community-based efforts that expand access and create opportunities for young riders to get started.

One of our awesome bike shop sponsors Bike Stop Bicycle Store promoted the KC Cup MTB race at Landahl this past Sunday. We had a nice representation from the team. Tige Lamb took the win in the master’s class and 3rd overall in the Marathon distance. Wes Watkins took the top step in the Open Expert Class and Raymond Mulnix was 4th in the Expert Masters 50+. Thanks Bike Stop for a great event!
