A river doesn’t stop flowing because rocks are in the way. It finds a path.

Some rocks are placed there by nature. Others are dropped there by people who don’t like where the water is headed.

Either way, the river keeps moving.

I’ve learned that when you’re trying to build something worthwhile, there will always be people more committed to creating obstacles than creating opportunities. That’s fine.

Water has a way of outlasting rock.

Stay focused on the destination, not the resistance.

Tonight was a powerful reminder of what community looks like.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Harlan and his family. I hope they felt the love, strength, and support that surrounded them this evening.

I also want to recognize the students who organized tonight’s vigil. Their compassion, leadership, and willingness to step forward for a friend and classmate should make all of us proud.

The candles, conversations, hugs, tears, and presence of so many people served as a reminder that when one of our own is hurting, we come together.

At the end of the day, community is not a place. It is people. It is showing up for one another when it matters most.

Tonight, our community did exactly that.

Together, we can move mountains.

I am just now seeing all the messages I’ve received regarding last night’s accident. It is devastating news! Please take time to check in with students. I know I will be spending the day reaching out to as many students as I can!

It’s times like these where we need to come together as a community to figure out how to move in unison to make sure we show our students how to navigate adversity.
