Gone but Never Forgotten, Sarge

Today, we dedicated our time, effort, and hearts to a fallen hero — a hero and a brother to me. A man who served with honor and someone I had the privilege of being mentored by: Sergeant Steven Gaughan 1734.

Our effort today was second to none, and we honored him the best way we knew how — by winning the tournament. But our win isn’t just about the scoreboard. It symbolizes something far greater. We came together, not just to compete, but to play for a purpose beyond the game.

Our victory doesn’t take away the pain of losing such an incredible person, but we hope it brings some comfort in knowing how many lives he continues to touch — even now.

As coaches, the guidance we offer comes from a legacy of leadership passed down to us — a lineage of values and mentorship that includes Sgt. Gaughan. We coach not just to teach the game, but to help shape young women into strong, productive members of society. The lessons we teach on the softball field often reflect the lessons of life: perseverance, teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

Teaching softball is only a small part of what we do. We love these girls like our own and only want what’s best for them — just like Steven did for the young officers he mentored. His influence continues through every life he touched, and his legacy lives on through us.

You are gone, but never forgotten, Sarge. ID 1734 — continue to watch over us alongside our other fallen heroes. her fallen heroes. You earned your rest, and we will carry your spirit forward.
