🚨 Summer Safety Alert 🚨

Swimming in a pool is a controlled, flat-water environment, whereas the ocean is highly turbulent and physically draining. As ABC News' Good Morning America demonstrates, strong, fit athletes struggle significantly more when fighting open-water waves and currents, emphasizing that pool swimming does not prepare you for ocean conditions 🌊

Stay water safe this summer by wearing a U.S. Coast Guard approved life-jacket while in & around open water! 🛟

Meet Olivia & Isabella, Splash and Dash Swim Lesson’s most recent swim graduates! 🎓

Olivia & Isabella started their swim journey at a local swim establishment. They were enrolled in group lessons & making slow yet steady progress. Mom wanted more. That’s where we came in! In just (9) 30 minute, 1:1 lessons, both girls learned & are now able to independently swim across the deep end, exit the water & float on their backs! Way to make a splash, girls! 💦

We also LOVE the 2-3 layers of drowning protection: 1. Barriers - Fence around the pool 2. Supervision - Mom & Dad observing swim lessons 3. Water Competency - Swim Lessons! Way to go, Mom & Dad! 🎉

Six-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller and his wife Morgan joined TODAY to open up about water safety education for parents. The Millers lost their 19-month-old daughter Emmy to drowning in 2018, and have turned their grief into a mission to educate parents about water safety and save lives.

We especially love the end of this video where they discuss swimmers crying & fussing over swim lessons. 'We do it because we know it keeps them SAFE.' 🛟

Did you know that we offer 1:1 swim lessons for swimmers with autism? 🩵

Every child learns differently, and we’re proud to create a supportive, patient, and encouraging environment where swimmers can build confidence, comfort, and life-saving water safety skills at their own pace. From smiles like these to major milestones in the pool, every victory matters!

We love celebrating each swimmer’s unique journey and helping them shine in the water ✨

🛟May is National Water Safety Month! 💦

As more community & residential pools begin to open in our area for the summer swim season, we want to remind our families that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of death in children between the ages of 1 and 4. About 4,000 people in the U.S. die from drowning each year, the agency states.

The new recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics highlight six key points for parents and caregivers to keep in mind:

🛟Be aware of drowning hazards and supervise children in, on, and around water. Young children should never be left alone or with other kids in or near bathtubs, pools, spas, or in or near flowing or standing water, even momentarily.

🛟A supervising adult with swimming skills should always be within arm's length of kids and provide touch supervision for an infant, toddler, or weak swimmer who is in or around water.

🛟Children should receive swimming lessons as early as after their first birthday. There is no evidence that infant swim lessons reduce drowning incidents.

🛟Children near water, non-swimmers, and those riding on boats should wear Coast Guard-approved life jackets, and adults should model their use.

🛟Fencing requirements, life jacket regulations, lifeguard standards, and safe natural-water designations and other related laws and regulations are proven strategies to reduce drowning deaths.

🛟Caregivers and teenagers should learn CPR and know how to perform safe rescue.

The American Academy of Pediatrics released new recommendations to prevent drownings ahead of summer.

🛟 Water safety is about so much more than simply swimming across the pool 🛟

A truly safer swimmer is someone who can:

✅ Enter the water safely
✅ Exit the pool independently
✅ Float or tread water and transition into forward movement
✅ Swim 25 yards independently while breathing as needed
✅ Adapt emotionally to different water situations
✅ Understand essential water safety rules

These foundational skills help swimmers build confidence, independence, and the ability to respond calmly in and around the water.

At Splash and Dash Swim Lessons, we focus on developing strong swimmers through personalized instruction that emphasizes both swim technique and lifelong water safety skills! 💦

Because being able to swim is important...And being able to stay safe while swimming is essential! 🛟
