Oregon Ki Society
The Oregon Ki Society (OKS) is a nonprofit educational service organization established in 1974 to spread Ki principles, Kiatsu®, and Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido as taught by Master Koichi Tohei. The OKS provides a traditional Japanese dojo training environment for students of all ages and abilities. The programs are led by highly skilled instructors with 10 to 40 years teaching exp
erience. All OKS instructors are certified by Ki Society HQ in Japan and receive ongoing instruction to stay current and maintain certification. Students study Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido to learn to coordinate mind and body, to work with others positively, and realize their full potentials. Aikidoists use Ki to powerfully lead their opponents, moving together, rather than colliding or fighting with them. The principles of Aikido apply directly to dealing productively with people in daily life. Students learn the process of applying Ki to the martial art utilizing the principles of non-dissension and the five principles of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido. The Oregon Ki Society teaches Ki Aikido in traditional dojo settings. Instructors travel yearly to Japan to ensure that latest teaching from Tohei Sensei is available to students. Ki is living power. Our greatest potential lies hidden. Photo by Ladydeneb. The power we often think we have, our usual ability, is like the small visible segment of an iceberg, which floats above the surface of the water. We think this is all there is. But hidden beneath the surface of the water is a much larger part of the iceberg. This greater portion is like the power of our Ki. Only by using the whole iceberg do we activate our full potential. The common purpose of Ki development, Kiatsu®, and Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido is to learn how to coordinate mind and body and to apply Ki Principles to improve the quality of our daily life.
