I applaud the Horns for implementing a program like this. My only question is why so late. This should be introduced early on to athletes and that’s our goal. There’s still time to sign your young athlete up to one of our summer sessions.

What's the purpose of these clinics you ask? I wish I had video of a conversation during one of our afternoon classes yesterday. We were working on the 1st pull of the clean. One of my new clients dropped down and you could tell she was getting ready to rip that weight from the floor. I stepped in and corrected. After the set I asked if she jerks the weight off floor during Power Cleans and she said yes. That's not what intrigued me about this conversation. There was a young athlete from a local school lifting right next to her. He jumps in and says "Are you not suppose to do that, because that's how I was taught." So I went on to talk about the movement we were working on is meant to help prevent that. We also talked about how ripping the bar from the floor transfers the weight load to your lower back due to improper placement of the hips and will lead to injury.

So long story not really short our goal is to help kids understand the movements and movement patterns of lifting. In turn they will be able to lift safer and become better athletes. It will also help the coaches be able to focus on their summer programs because it will take less time to teach the kids how to lift in the weight room.
