TBT to one of our wildest restaurant stops in the Philippines 🤣🪆 Voodoo House in Siquijor was such a cool spot. The food was awesome, the vibe was magical, and the whole place had that unique tropical, mystical feel!

A SHIPWRECK, A CHIEFTAIN & A NAME THAT LASTED 450+ YEARS 🇵🇭🤯

I stopped in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, and found a piece of history that goes all the way back to the 1500s. According to Narvacan’s local historical tradition, a Spanish expedition connected to Juan de Salcedo encountered trouble along this coast, and the Ilocano expression “Nalbaka?”, associated with being shipwrecked, became connected to the name Narvacan.

The site also honors Demalina, a local chieftain identified in the historical marker as the first Narvacanean identified by name in the Spanish account from 1572.

The ship replica represents the famous shipwreck story associated with Narvacan’s origin. Local sources differ on the exact year, with the site and some tourism material referencing 1574, while other historical accounts place the shipwreck and establishment of Narvacan in 1576.

Imagine standing in the same town where these stories reach back more than 450 years. 🤯🇵🇭
