COME RAIN OR SHINE!

Aqua Greens is proud to play a small part in this year’s Travelers Championship "15-1/2 Hole Challenge." The floating umbrella green pictured here was custom built by Aqua Greens for a social media content shoot promoting the Challenge. The 10’ x 10’ replica of the iconic Travelers red umbrella logo is about one-quarter the size of the actual green used in the competition.

"I get asked all of the time if we built the floating umbrella for the Travelers Championship," said Aqua Greens owner Matt Gault. "We didn't, so to get a call from them and get asked to do a replica of the green, it was pretty cool. It's a unique, very recognizable brand and was a fun design to build."

The canopy of the replica umbrella is 4' x 10' and the length of the handle and stem is 6 feet. Gault notes that this is perfect size for a short shot of 20 to 30 yards, not the 85-yard shot that will be the distance at the Travelers.

Aqua Greens also built a smaller 4’ x 4’ replica green for former New England Patriots' star wide receiver Julian Edelman and social media influencers Tisha Alyn Abrea, roger_steele and Josh Kelley to practice on for next week’s Challenge.

Tune in next Tuesday, June 23, at 2 p.m., on the PGA TOUR's YouTube channel to see the four compete in a closest-to-the-pin challenge with the winner receiving a $10,000 donation for the charity of their choice. Today co-host Carson Daly will be hosting the event. Current PGA TOUR stars Rickie Fowler, Chris Gotterup, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele and J.J. Spaun all took part in the March content shoot, offering tips and advice to Alyn, Steele and Kelley. This weekend, Spaun is attempting to become the first player to go back to back at the U.S. Open Championship since Brooks Koepka in 2017-'18.

BACKYARD GOLF

Integra Avalon Luxury Apartment Homes, a relatively new residential community in Winter Garden, Fla.—minutes from Walt Disney World Resort—turned an unused lake into a waterfront golfing experience for prospective and current residents. A fully playable, receptive 16' x 24' floating island green highlights the unique amenity which, as you can see in the video below, is already a hole-in-one with residents and those touring the facility.

"The majority of our business has been golf clubs that have a pond for their driving range," said Aqua Greens owner Matt Gault, whose team custom-built and installed both greens. "Slowly over time we've seen private ownership come into play. This is an excellent development to start seeing ponds like this at a residential community get repurposed for golf."

Renters' Paradise!

Last week, Aqua Greens' owner Matt Gault had the chance to check in on one of his more recent aqua range installations, at Integra Avalon Luxury Apartment Homes in Winter Garden, Fla., just outside of Walt Disney World Resort. He left wishing he could've stayed A LOT longer.

"It was great to see such beautiful amenities," he said. "Who wouldn't want to live there? I know I would. That place is set up like a resort. I'm over-the-moon excited that Aqua Greens was chosen to be a part of the amenities buildout there."

Back in early March, Aqua Greens installed two floating golf greens (pictured) in the large pond directly behind the resort-style luxe pool and the main amenities center, which includes a media game room with shuffleboard and pool table, state-of-the-art gym and digital cafe. The larger of the two greens, 16' x 24' four-lobe custom island green, is infilled with sand to perform like a real green and reward good shots.

GARDEN OF GREENS

Earlier this week, Aqua Greens installed one 16' x 24' four-lobe custom island green and one 9' x 12' kidney-shaped green at the brand new, resort-style Integra Avalon Luxury Apartment Homes community in Winter Garden, Fla. This is the second residential complex in Florida we've fitted with an aqua range (joining The Cottages at Cypress Cay in Lutz), but the first with a playable iron green designed to hold shots.

Aqua Greens also had to build a 100-foot-long floating barrier to keep balls from leaving the pond and wandering into environmentally sensitive conservation land.

The mini-aqua range is located just outside of Integra Avalon's resort-style luxe pool, one of many amenities—including a fitness center, media game room and restaurant lounge and cafe—available to tenants. The island green, located 75 yards from the teeing area, is the kind of premium amenity many residential developments are looking for these days to attract renters.

“It’s a cool thing because it’s a residential development, away from a golf club," says Aqua Greens owner Matt Gault. "It's a nice-sized green and it fills the need they were going after."

BALL CONTAINMENT

Over the years, Aqua Greens owner Matt Gault estimates that his company has built and installed more than 100 floating aqua ranges in Southwest Florida. Only 30-35 percent of them, however, have floater ball containment systems in place.

"A lot of them are missing the boat,” Gault says. “They’re basically robbing themselves because they’re constantly battling their facility to get their floater balls back. They’re having to buy new balls all the time, and on top of that they have to pay someone to walk all that shoreline.”

AQUA REPLENISHMENT

Hurricanes Irma (2017) and Ian (2022) did quite a number on the aqua range at Bonita National Golf & Country Club, ripping apart anchor lines and tossing several ton greens around like they were rag dolls. After significant repairs, the club was able to keep the range open, but it was in serious need of some new target greens. That restoration process was completed last month, highlighted by a new 20' x 26' custom-designed centerpiece green with the club's shield logo stenciled into the surface (photo, below).

“We really wanted to give our members the opportunity to enjoy the game without having to be on the course, and with the completion of this project we’re extremely confident that we have a practice facility that, all in all, is probably unmatched in our marketplace,” says JP Shepherd, head golf professional at Bonita National.
