I regret to announce that the BellVelo Gravel Series will not take place this winter as planned.
Due to infrastructure changes in the area, we are no longer able to use the original course and while a new course was identified it would take a significant effort to ensure the event would not negatively impact the local community, something we are keen to avoid.
The combination of that with Craig experiencing significant changes to his professional commitments meaning it would unfair to expect the huge level of effort he has given to the series in previous years and myself taking on roles at additional events along with the lawsuit and associated allegations made against GHCF, myself and third parties after the week 2 crash last year have all contributed to myself lacking any motivation to run this event. It is a shame as it was a key revenue stream for GHCF and provided a good local racing opportunity.
While I do not believe the lawsuit has any grounds, or any of the allegations any substance, it has caused significant inconvenience and stress so I have decided to limit my involvement to events at Alkek Velodrome and fully sanctioned closed course events only, therefore will not be involved in Gravel Racing in any capacity going forward. If anyone is interested in taking on the series, please contact me at [email protected] so I can put you in touch with the entities that supported the series.
Craig, GHCF and myself would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who raced in the spirit of Gravel, our sponsors, volunteers and officials for all they did to make the series what it was over the last 3 years.
I would finally like to extend a huge degree of gratitude to Craig and his family who helped us raise thousands of dollars through this event to allow GHCF run its programs.
