Yesterday was a truly unforgettable day for me and The Jiu-Jitsu Den at the PRIDE 53 BJJ Tournament.
We showed up with 9 warriors—5 kids and 4 adults—the majority of whom were stepping into competition for the very first time. Out of 50 academies, we placed 13th overall. That’s huge for a gym that’s only a year old.
The results speak volumes: Myla won double gold (Gi and No-Gi), submitting every opponent. Gideon brought home gold, submitting everyone he faced. Billy also claimed gold, winning every match by submission. Ryan won gold with both submission wins and a strong points victory.
Altogether, The Den brought back 5 gold medals, 2 silver, and 2 bronze—but it’s not just about the medals.
What fills me with the deepest pride isn’t just the podium finishes. It’s the heart every one of my students showed. It’s the courage it takes to compete—standing alone on those mats, staring down fear, pushing through nerves, and choosing growth over comfort.
I remember the blood, sweat, and tears it took to walk my own Jiu-Jitsu journey. The Den has been a dream fueled by that same grit. And now, to see it reflected in my students—this brotherhood, this tribe, this family we’ve created—it’s hard to put into words what that means to me.
Most people will never know the fire it takes to even step on those mats. But those who do, who choose the path of martial arts, discover something sacred: discipline, humility, confidence, resilience—and a deeper version of themselves.
I’m beyond grateful to coach these incredible humans. This is more than a sport. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a path of transformation.
We’re officially on the map. And we’re just getting started. LET’S GO!!! 🐻🥋🔥
