PMAA Charter School Spotlight: King Tiger Tae Kwon Do Harrisburg

This week, we are proud to highlight King Tiger Tae Kwon Do Harrisburg, a PMAA Charter School serving the Harrisburg, North Carolina community.
Led by Master Chris Knight and Master Brian Foster, King Tiger Harrisburg is dedicated to helping students grow through martial arts training that builds confidence, discipline, character, focus, and respect.

Their school provides training for children, teens, and adults, while also offering students opportunities to develop through Taekwondo, Philippine Combatives, and other martial arts disciplines.

What stands out about King Tiger Harrisburg is their commitment to creating a positive training environment where students are challenged, encouraged, and supported as they become stronger both on and off the mat.

This is exactly what the PMAA mission is about: recognizing the people, schools, and groups who are helping build strong martial arts communities while continuing to preserve, promote, educate, and advance Filipino Martial Arts.

Thank you, King Tiger Tae Kwon Do Harrisburg, for your continued dedication to your students, families, and martial arts community.

FMA Training Resource: Fact #5

In Filipino Martial Arts, understanding range is one of the keys to effective training.

Fact #5 focuses on the katawan, or the body of the stick, and how it is commonly used at midrange. This part of the stick helps practitioners develop better control, timing, distance, and awareness when applying FMA principles.

Training with the katawan reminds us that Filipino Martial Arts is not only about striking. It is about learning how each part of the training tool has a purpose, and how movement changes depending on range, positioning, and intent.

This is one of the reasons FMA continues to be respected for its adaptability, practicality, and depth.

Through continued education and training, PMAA helps preserve, promote, and share the principles of Arnis, Kali, Eskrima, and Filipino Martial Arts with students and instructors around the world.

Preserve. Promote. Educate. Advance.

FMA Training Resource: Fact #4

In Filipino Martial Arts, every part of the stick has a purpose.

Fact #4 focuses on the punyo, or the butt end of the stick, which is often used in close-range training.

Understanding the punyo helps practitioners develop better awareness of distance, control, positioning, and close-range application. It reminds us that FMA is not only about long-range striking, but also about learning how movement changes when the distance closes.

This is one of the reasons Filipino Martial Arts is known for its practicality, adaptability, and depth.

Through continued education and training, PMAA helps preserve, promote, and share the principles of Arnis, Kali, Eskrima, and Filipino Martial Arts with students and instructors around the world.

Preserve. Promote. Educate. Advance.

Filipino Martial Arts continues to grow through the work of dedicated coaches, officials, instructors, and organizations helping raise the standard of Arnis across the Philippines.

Recently, the PEKAF (Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation) Western Visayas Coaching and Officiating Workshop-Seminar and Accreditation for Technical Officials in Arnis brought together individuals committed to improving the quality, structure, and integrity of Arnis competition and instruction.

Efforts like this are important for the future of Filipino Martial Arts. They help strengthen the next generation of coaches, referees, judges, technical officials, athletes, and practitioners who will continue carrying the art forward.
At PMAA, we support the people and organizations working to preserve, promote, educate, and advance Arnis, Kali, Eskrima, and Filipino Martial Arts worldwide.

True leadership in Filipino Martial Arts is not measured only by rank, titles, or years of training.

It is measured by service.

The instructors who teach with patience.
The schools that create safe places to learn.
The practitioners who train with humility.
The leaders who pass on knowledge without forgetting where it came from.

Filipino Martial Arts continues to grow because of those who choose to serve the art, the students, and the community.

At PMAA, we believe leadership means helping preserve the roots of FMA while creating opportunities for future generations to learn, grow, and carry the art forward with respect.

Preserve the roots.
Serve the community.
Lead the next generation.

STIX 4 Kids in Action!

Students had a great time learning, moving, and building confidence during a STIX 4 Kids seminar with Grandmaster Melegrito.

From basic movements to partner activities, the training kept students engaged while introducing them to the fundamentals of Filipino Martial Arts in a fun and positive environment.

Great energy and great work from everyone! 👏

In Filipino Martial Arts, stick training is more than simply learning how to strike.

Practitioners learn to understand and use the different parts of the stick, including the punyo or butt end, the katawan or body of the stick, and the dulo or tip of the stick.

Each part has its own purpose and teaches important principles of control, timing, distance, and adaptability.
This is one of the reasons FMA develops such a practical and well-rounded understanding of movement. The stick becomes more than a training tool - it becomes a way to study range, structure, and application.

Through education and training, PMAA continues to help preserve, promote, and share the depth of Filipino Martial Arts with students, instructors, and schools around the world.
Preserve. Promote. Educate. Advance.

Historical FMA Content

Did you know?
Balintawak Eskrima/Balintawak Arnis is one of the well-known Filipino Martial Arts systems connected to Cebu and the legacy of Grandmaster Venancio “Anciong” Bacon.

The name Balintawak is commonly traced to Balintawak Street in Cebu City, where early training was organized. The system is widely known for its single-stick training approach and close-range fighting emphasis.
This is another reminder that Filipino Martial Arts was shaped by many teachers, communities, and lineages across the Philippines.

Each system carries its own history, training methods, and identity, while still contributing to the larger story of Arnis, Kali, Eskrima, and Filipino Martial Arts.

At PMAA, we honor the many lineages and communities that continue to preserve, promote, educate, and advance FMA for future generations.

There’s something special about seeing students, parents, and families training side by side. Moments like these are about more than learning martial arts - they’re about building confidence, strengthening connections, and creating memories together.

A big thank you to all of the families who joined us and brought such great energy to the floor. We love seeing our TM Martial Arts community learn, laugh, and grow together!
