Many of us first experience Wiffle®Ball, in the backyard with our parents as little kids. However, “real” baseball and softball takes over and the plastic bat and balls find their way in the trash or behind and under Dad’s mess in the garage. Some players however can maintain their love for the game of Wiffle®Ball by balancing their work schedules, home lives ,and family obligations to continue pl

aying Wiffle®Ball. Thus is the case with the players of the GCWL, creating the Greater Cincinnati Wiffleball League which started play in the summer of 2013. At Greater Cincinnati WiffleBall League, our purpose is to combine our passion for Wiffle®Ball with a deep commitment to supporting our local communities. As a non-profit organization, our primary objective is to raise funds and awareness for vital causes that positively impact the lives of local veterans, school sports, and youth sports programs. Through our spirited Wiffle®Ball events and community-driven initiatives, we aim to foster a strong sense of camaraderie and inclusivity while creating a platform for giving back. We wholeheartedly believe in the power of sports to unite and uplift communities, and we strive to be a catalyst for change. Our vision is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local veterans, who have selflessly served our country, by providing them with the support and resources they deserve. Additionally, we are dedicated to enriching the lives of young athletes in our communities by investing in local school sports and youth sports programs, helping them develop essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. As a non-profit Wiffle®Ball league, we are committed to transparency, integrity, and accountability in managing the funds raised. We seek to maximize the impact of every dollar donated by efficiently directing resources to these essential causes. Through the active involvement and support of our passionate volunteers, donors, and sponsors, we endeavor to create a sustainable and enduring organization that continues to serve as a beacon of hope and support for the communities we call home. FIXED

onday night, because there was a LOT going on.

We'll start with the pitching, because three guys threw complete-game shutouts in the early slate and it would be a disservice not to lead with that. Brice Carpenter (Moonshot Mafia) went 6.0 innings, struck out 9, and allowed zero runs to beat Chicken & Wiffles 1-0. Josh McCloskey (Tropic Thunder) was even filthier — 6.0 innings, 10 strikeouts, 2 hits, zero runs in a 1-0 win over Wendy Peffercorn. And Robbie Moore (Melonheads) held Iron Hands to ONE hit over 6.0 innings with 8 strikeouts in an 8-0 win. Three shutouts in the same time slot. The hitters around the league were not having a good evening.

Now, Carpenter's shutout was impressive, but it almost got overshadowed by the guy on the other side of it. Joe Havasi went 3-for-3 with 2 walks for Chicken & Wiffles — a perfect plate appearance every single time he stepped in the box — and his team still lost 1-0. Aidan Ayer's solo homer in the top half was all Moonshot Mafia needed, and Carpenter made sure that was enough. Chicken & Wiffles had the better individual hitting performance and walked away with nothing to show for it. Brutal.

The Melonheads game was a different kind of story. Iron Hands gave up 8 runs despite Luke Mukuda striking out 9 guys, which tells you everything you need to know about what Brenden Johnson and Evan Dearwester were doing at the plate. Johnson went 5-for-8 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs. Dearwester went 5-for-7 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Two guys combined for 10 hits in a single game. Iron Hands pitcher Luke Mukuda had 9 strikeouts and still gave up 5 runs in 5 innings because at some point the hits just kept coming. Moore only allowed 1 hit on the mound, so Iron Hands' night was rough from both sides. They're now 1-5 on the season with a 4-game losing streak.

Over in the Nicaragua vs. DBAP game, Tanner Kremer threw 7 full innings, allowed zero runs, walked nobody, and struck out 6 to get the 2-0 win in extra innings. George Paskal was nearly as good on the other side — 7.0 innings, 9 strikeouts, only 2 hits allowed — but gave up 2 runs and took the loss. Avelardo Tercero hit a homer with 2 RBIs to account for all of Nicaragua's scoring. A tight, well-pitched game that went seven and ended on a margin of two.

The 6:15 slate also had an extra-innings game between Cincinnati Peggers and Silly Nannies, which the Peggers took 6-4 in 7 innings. Brandon Chitwood went all seven for Cincinnati and held on despite walking 6 batters. Brennan Bruner went 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBIs, and Xander Bruner added 2-for-7 with 2 RBIs. Silly Nannies got homers from Zachary Kennedy and Brandon Eckert but couldn't get the lead when it mattered. The Nannies fall to 5-1 with their first loss of the season, which still has them in 2nd place — but the Peggers stealing a game from them in extras definitely stings.

Backyard Legends beat T-Flex 3-1 in the early window, and Ryan Rickey was the reason on both sides of the ball. He went 4-for-6 at the plate and struck out 14 batters in 5.0 innings on the mound, allowing just 1 run on 2 hits. Fourteen strikeouts in five innings. Dave Handley hit a solo homer for T-Flex's only run, and the Legends moved to 5-0 on the season heading into the second half of the night.

Then the 7:15 games kicked off.

Backyard Legends made it 6-0 with a 1-0 win over Cincinnati Peggers, with Ben Faulkner throwing a complete-game shutout — 6.0 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 5 strikeouts. James Cobb was tough in the loss, going 6.0 innings with 8 strikeouts and allowing just 1 run, but it wasn't enough. Kenny Bradford went 3-for-5 to lead the offense. Faulkner also drove in the only run with a single. Backyard Legends are now 6-0 and not showing any signs of slowing down.

George Paskal turned his rough-luck loss from earlier in the night into something completely different in the nightcap. After throwing 7 innings and losing 2-0 to Nicaragua, he came back out in the 7:15 slot and threw a shutout for DBAP — 6.0 innings, 12 strikeouts, 5 hits, zero runs — to beat Moonshot Mafia 1-0. Two starts in one night, a shutout in the second one, 21 combined strikeouts. Matt Turner drove in the only run. Moonshot Mafia went 1-1 on the night and sits at 3-3.

Tropic Thunder beat Iron Hands 2-1 in the second game to complete a 2-0 night and improve to 3-3. No detailed stats were submitted for that one, but a win is a win and Tropic Thunder now has a 2-game winning streak.

Dave Handley was very busy in the second slot. After homering earlier against Backyard Legends, he came back and threw 6.0 innings with 11 strikeouts, allowing 1 run, to lead T-Flex past Wendy Peffercorn 3-1. Matt Ostrowski went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, and an RBI for T-Flex. Ray Kallmeyer added a home run and 2 RBIs. Drew Lepine went 3-for-5 for Wendy Peffercorn but it wasn't enough — they went 0-2 on the night and are now 2-4 with a 2-game skid.

The Silly Nannies bounced back from their extra-innings loss earlier in the night by putting up 11 runs on Nicaragua in the nightcap, winning 11-5. Conner Gadbury struck out 13 in 6.0 innings for the win. TJ Graves went 4-for-5 with a homer, a triple, and 2 RBIs. Spencer Fluegel went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, and 5 RBIs. Tanner Kremer hit 2 homers and drove in 3 for Nicaragua despite taking the loss on the mound earlier — he was 2-for-3 with 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, and 2 walks at the plate. One of those nights where Nicaragua's best hitter and best pitcher were the same guy, and they still went 1-1.

And finally, Chicken & Wiffles closed out the night by shutting out the Melonheads 3-0. Ryan Henry started with 7 strikeouts in 3.0 innings, Ron Ketterer came in and added 7 more over the final 3.0 innings — a combined 14-strikeout performance that held Connor Hambly (4-for-6 on the night) and Evan Dearwester (2-for-5) scoreless. Jim Bryant drove in 2 runs for Chicken & Wiffles. Robbie Moore started for Melonheads and struck out 9 himself, but gave up 3 runs on 3 hits. He threw two games Monday and his night ended with a loss after a shutout. That's a tough 180.

Standings check: Backyard Legends are 6-0 and alone at the top. Silly Nannies are 5-1 and 1 back. Nicaragua is 3rd at 4-2, T-Flex 4th at 4-2. Iron Hands are now 1-5 on a 4-game losing streak and haven't found much to feel good about. Plenty of season left, but the gap at the top is real.

Steve Maley and Chris Bradford both had the kind of nights where the opposing pitcher probably considered a career change. In the Backyard Legends' 13-6 demolition of the Melonheads, Maley went 5-for-9 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs, and Bradford matched the chaos going 4-for-9 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. Ryan Rickey chipped in a 5-for-9 line with 2 doubles for good measure. The Legends' trio combined for 14 hits and 11 RBIs in a single game. Chris Eldridge took the loss after allowing 13 runs on 17 hits in 6 innings — look, sometimes the ball just finds bats. Brenden Johnson did his best to fight back for the Melonheads with a 3-for-6, 2-HR, 3-RBI performance, but it wasn't nearly enough. Ryan Rickey threw all 6 innings for Backyard Legends, striking out 12.

That same night, Wendy Peffercorn got past Moonshot Mafia 3-2 in a tighter one. Scott Fluegel handled both ends of it — going 3-for-6 with a homer, a double, and 3 RBIs at the plate while tossing all 6 innings, allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits with 9 strikeouts. Jim Sanders went 3-for-6 and Taylor Bryan was on base constantly at 2-for-4 with 2 walks. Brice Carpenter took the loss for Moonshot Mafia in 4.1 innings, and Jake Miller and Aidan Ayer both had doubles but the offense couldn't get enough going. Wendy Peffercorn goes 2-0 on the week and improves to 2-2 on the season. Moonshot Mafia falls to 2-2 with a current L1 streak.

The Silly Nannies and Chicken & Wiffles game was a wild one. Ron Ketterer absolutely raked for Chicken & Wiffles — 3-for-6 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs — and at some point in that game it looked like the Nannies were in serious trouble, down 3 runs. Then Brandon Eckert happened. He went 4-for-5 with a homer, a double, and 6 RBIs, single-handedly flipping the game around. Silly Nannies came all the way back to win 9-6. Conner Gadbury earned the win throwing all 6 innings, striking out 14 batters while allowing 6 runs. Ryan Henry got the loss after giving up 9 runs in 5 innings, though he did punch out 9 himself. Silly Nannies stays perfect at 4-0 and their run differential is now +28, which is not a typo. Chicken & Wiffles drops to 1-3.

The T-Flex and Tropic Thunder game went 8 innings and featured the kind of stat lines that make you do a double-take. Dave Handley was simply everywhere — 5-for-6 at the plate with a homer, a double, 5 RBIs, and 2 walks, AND he threw all 8 innings, giving up just 4 runs with 14 strikeouts. Owen Weber went 5-for-7 with a double for Tropic Thunder, and Tyler Mairose went 4-for-8, so it's not like Tropic Thunder laid down. Matt Ostrowski added a 4-for-8 line for T-Flex. Josh McCloskey threw all 8 innings for Tropic Thunder, struck out 15, and still lost 8-4. T-Flex wins it and improves to 3-1. Tropic Thunder falls to 1-3 and is now on a three-game losing streak.

Brandon Chitwood had one of the quieter great days you'll see — he threw a complete game shutout against DBAP, going 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits, and striking out 5. Then in the bottom of the last inning he walked it off himself. WALK-OFF. Final score: 1-0, Cincinnati Peggers. Chitwood went 1-for-3 with a solo home run that ended the game. That's the whole box score you need. DBAP drops to 0-4 on the season, and the walk-off was the only run scored all day. Christopher Romito went 1-for-5 in a tough outing for DBAP.

Over in the second Backyard Legends game, this one against Tropic Thunder, Ryan Rickey threw 7 innings, allowed just 1 run on 8 hits, and struck out 12. Steve Maley followed up his earlier eruption with another 5-hit game — 5-for-9, a homer, and 2 RBIs. Tyler Mairose again went 4-for-6 for Tropic Thunder, so at least he's having himself a week individually. Josh McCloskey threw 7 innings for Tropic Thunder in this one too, striking out 13, giving up just 3 runs on 7 hits in a tough-luck loss. Backyard Legends wins 3-1 and stays unbeaten at 4-0. Tropic Thunder now sits at 1-3 with a three-game skid.

Scott Fluegel shut the Melonheads out completely in the nightcap, throwing all 6 innings, allowing zero runs on 7 hits with 7 strikeouts. Jim Sanders hit a homer and drove in 3 for Wendy Peffercorn in a 5-0 win. Fluegel chipped in at the plate again too, going 2-for-6 with a homer and 2 RBIs. Brenden Johnson went 3-for-4 for the Melonheads in a losing cause, and Robbie Moore took the loss after allowing 5 runs in 5 innings. Melonheads drop to 1-3 and are now on a three-game losing streak.

Ray Kallmeyer was untouchable for T-Flex against Cincinnati Peggers — 6 innings, 3 hits, zero runs, 9 strikeouts, zero walks. T-Flex won 1-0 on a Dave Handley solo homer. That was the entire offense for both teams. James Cobb threw a solid 5 innings for the Peggers and allowed only 1 run, but sometimes one run is all it takes. T-Flex goes 2-0 on the week and is now 3-1 on the season. Cincinnati Peggers goes 1-1 on the week and sits at 2-2.

Jake Miller was Solid for Moonshot Mafia — 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, and a walk — as the Mafia beat Iron Hands 6-1. Brice Carpenter bounced back from his earlier loss to throw all 6 innings in this one, giving up just 1 run on 3 hits with 11 strikeouts. Don Carpenter went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Moonshot Mafia. Brenden Regan went 2-for-5 with 2 doubles for Iron Hands but Luke Mukuda had a rough 2 innings on the mound. Moonshot Mafia goes 1-1 on the week and finishes 2-2. Iron Hands falls to 1-3.

Nicaragua handled Chicken & Wiffles 5-1 behind a 4-for-5 day from Manuel Herrera and Oscar Pérez throwing 6 complete innings, giving up just 1 run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts. Bayardo Perez went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Ron Ketterer pitched and gave up 5 runs on 13 hits in 5 innings while also going 2-for-5 with a homer at the plate — he was busy. Nicaragua improves to 3-1. Chicken & Wiffles falls to 1-3.

Silly Nannies rolled DBAP 11-3 in a game where everyone seemed to have something going. TJ Graves went 4-for-6 with a homer, 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs. Spencer Fluegel went 2-for-4 with a homer and 5 RBIs. Christopher Romito put on a show for DBAP going 4-for-7 with 2 home runs and 2 RBIs — genuinely one of the best individual lines of the night — but DBAP couldn't get much else going and lost 11-3. Conner Gadbury got the win in 5 innings, striking out 5. DBAP is 0-4 and still searching for their first win. Silly Nannies is 4-0 and it's not really a contest at this point.

Nicaragua closed out the week with an 8-7 win over Iron Hands. Avelardo Tercero hit 2 home runs and drove in 2, Saúl Rodríguez went 2-for-6 with a homer and 4 RBIs, and Oscar Pérez added a homer of his own. Bayardo Perez went 3-for-6. Garrett Calvert went 3-for-7 with 2 RBIs for Iron Hands in a losing effort. Nicaragua goes 2-0 on the week and sits at 3-1 overall with a three-game win streak.

Standings check after week two: Silly Nannies and Backyard Legends are both 4-0 and neither looks particularly beatable right now. Nicaragua at 3-1 and T-Flex at 3-1 are right behind them. DBAP is still looking for win number one. 🏆
