University of Washington Pitcher, Jack Enger, is heading into his senior season with high potential of being drafted this season. So proud of our client of 2 years who has worked with Kirk Bradshaw to train and prepare for the upcoming season. UW’s season starts February 19th against Santa Clara and we can’t wait to see his hard work and dedication pay off. Congrats Jack!

The former walk-on emerged as one of the team's top starters last season and likely would have turned pro by now had it not been for the pandemic.

What is Intra-Abdominal Pressure (IAP)?

IAP is based on the principles of developmental kinesiology developed by Dr. Pavel Kolar in the Czech Republic.

He calls this method Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, or DNS. Using this method he started comparing specific movements and positions of adolescents and adults with musculoskeletal dysfunction to normally developing infants on the 1st year of life. He started noticing many of us loose these optimal movement patterns.
One area I like to start at is the “core”. To me it is the foundation of everything. If your house doesn’t have a solid foundation it will eventually collapse. To improve the ability to get the core working this first video is one method I like to use to teach IAP. The Contralateral support pattern really helps those struggling to get the posterolateral wall.
Want to get more inferior abdominal wall (belt/waist line of pants), try adding isometric resistance into hip flexion of the opposite leg. This is resisting the phasic function of the hip.
Let me know what you think! Drop a comment below or shoot me a DM. I’ll follow up in a few days about how I start to incorporate IAP with basic movement patterns like rolling. This has helped previous patients with mid-scapular pain lifting a heavy laundry basket up off the ground?

Happy movin’ Monday from ATI🏃🏽
Coach Alex shows us a marching plank, a great exercise for working on shoulder and scapular stability. It can further help with proper core activity, breathing, elongated spine positioning, and controlled hip extension.
How did you get movin’ this past weekend? 💪🏻
