Beautifully said.

“Schools of the past... where respect was not optional. ”

In Taekwondo schools of old customs, not only the body was trained... character was formed.

It didn't matter if you were strong or fast, the first thing you learned was to salute, to listen and to respect.
The dojang wasn't a place to show off, it was a place to learn humility.

The teacher wasn't a "coach", he was a life guide.
And the tape wasn't given away... earned through discipline, consistency and sacrifice.

Then you understood that arriving early wasn't mandatory... it was respect.
That cleaning up the training area wasn't punishment... was part of your formation.
And that giving up wasn't an option.

Today many are looking for quick results, but the schools of the past taught something more valuable:
the patience to build a true taekwondo player.

Because in the end....
the techniques are forgotten,
but the values remain forever.

Let us now turn our attention this month to our staff and instructors for a little Q & A spotlight.

Everyone meet Ms. Holly.

How long have you been practicing martial arts?
"I began this journey when I was 7 years old."

What is your role at SMA?
"I provide substantial support behind the scenes and on the mat. Im pretty tech savvy so I manage the social media accounts, answer emails, design flyers, uniforms and logos. On the mat my focus is more on the inner workings and character development of taekwondo, critiquing and fine tuning the skills. Unfortunately while I served in the Army I got hurt and this has left me with physical limitations."

What's your favorite part about what you do?
"Oh man my absolute favorite moments are when our students break our real boards. Watching them light up and seeing all of that hard work come to life is surreal because the boards are thick and strong which takes real skill, focus, discipline and proper technique to break through."

What is your favorite life skill?
"Definitely RESILIENCY. It's so powerful and the core of it all. Resiliency builds everything else and helps up to face lifes adversties and curveballs."

Leave us with one piece of advice or favorite saying.
"Progress isn't always linear. As a mother this resonates with me becuase each child is different with their own path, in their own way on their own time. The key is to always find a way to connect and speak on their level."
