We need a healthy balance of carbs, fats, and protein to function. Most people typically eat too many fats and not enough protein.

Protein is essentially as it helps with both weight & muscle management!

❗️Your body will burn more calories to process protein than carbs or fats, therefore increasing your metabolism. So choosing lower-fat, higher-protein options will aid in fat loss.

‼️ Protein is also a key ingredient for muscle growth and maintenance. After age 35, we begin to lose muscle mass naturally unless we do something to prevent it. Eating more protein is one way to slow down this loss (strength training is the other).

** The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism as well. It’s hard to lose weight post-menopause because losing muscle slows the metabolism (we can fight this!) **

💪🏼 To stay strong, functional, and pain-free:
You need to balance exercise and nutrition, BUT it doesn’t have to take over your life.

I also have beer and wings nearly every Friday night. I rarely turn down a slice of pizza. And I won’t say goodbye to chocolate chip cookies.

But I can also go on a spontaneous hiking trip. I can play soccer with my friends each week. And I can jump up and down at a rock concert.

And I’ll continue to be able to do these things (pain-free!) for decades to come because I eat well to manage body fat and maintain (and build!) muscle.

90% of my meals prioritize protein (and of course, carbs for energy!).

🧩 If you’re struggling to balance these things, you’re in the right place! We’re all a little bit different so what works for one person won’t work exactly the same for you.

As a Certified Personal Trainer & Corrective Exercise Specialist, my job is to help you put the pieces together. To find YOUR recipe.

If you’re anything like me, January has already started before you’ve really begun to think about how you want this year to go.

This is a great time to reflect on your past year and think about what you want to keep doing going into the next and what you want to change.

How can you grow in 2025?

Where most people fail in their New Years Resolutions is that they simply state what wishes they have for the upcoming year.

“I want to be healthier in 2025.”

“I’m going to exercise more in 2025.”

While these are fantastic desires, there’s no substance to them. When thinking about what you want in 2025, you’ll want SMART goals.

SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound.

“I want to lose 10lbs by April.”

Then go into it with a plan.

If you wing the year based on the idea of simply “eating healthier” or “exercising more” with no plan, you’ll be unlikely to stick to the things that you need to do to make the change; to meet your goal. And you’ll end up in this same exact spot next year.

You need specifics.

And these specifics are where I personally like to focus my goals.

Because while a goal like losing 10lbs in 3 months is a great goal, it can be slow and difficult to see the progress. This can be demotivating.

So with that goal of losing 10lbs in 3 months in mind, add on a process goal.

“I will lose 10lbs in 3 months by eating at least 100g of protein per day and cutting my current junk food intake in half.”

“I will lose 10lbs in 3 months by strength training at least twice per week and exercise walking on weeknights.”

😉 My online clients don’t just get workouts. They get numerous additional tools and support to help them with building these habits.

🍗 You’ll be able to track your water intake, daily steps, protein intake, or whatever else your process needs to meet your goals.

Yes, the long-term goal may be losing 10lbs in 3 months. But short-term, let’s get you to drink at least 80oz of water per day. How many days in a row can we hit that goal? How many days in a month can we hit that goal?

Short-term, can we get you to exercise at least twice a week? Motivation doesn’t last. Discipline can be hard. Let’s build this habit. And once you have that? You’ll be reaching those long-term goals, no problem!

Think back. If you’re starting 2025 off in the same position as you were in 2024, maybe it’s time to look at your goals again. Are they SMART? Do you have a plan?

P.S. On average, it takes about 2 months to form a new habit. Like…. Regular exercise 🤔

A young woman approached me at the gym today. I’ve seen her before; she’s pretty quiet and sticks to the lighter weights. She came up to me to say that she thought my lifts were impressive.

So naturally I spent the rest of the morning feeling pretty good and smiling to myself.

The reason I’m sharing this story is that you never know who you might inspire.

It could be a beginner in the gym who is impressed and wants to build up to your level.

It could be a stranger in the parking lot who wishes she could also lift a pack of water into the back of her van the way you just did.

It could be your own children who aspire to be as strong and adventurous as mommy someday.

You may not be as strong as that girl on instagram. You may not be as thin as you used to be. But you can still inspire those around you, especially your kids, with good habits and healthy choices.

And it’s never too late to better your own life, your own health, and be a role model to the people around you.
