This story is bigger than a gold medal.
Most people will see the last picture and think they’re looking at the result.
They’re not.
What they’re really looking at is an athlete and a coach who refused to quit.
A few days ago, none of this was guaranteed.
Fly out from Austin was a better option so we drove to there, we waited in line for an hour, and found out Alisha’s visa had expired.
Back to Houston.
Wake up early.
Three hours at the consulate.
Visa approved.
Problem solved.
Or so we thought.
Then our flight to Miami got delayed.
We would miss our connection to Brazil.
New tickets.
More money.
More stress.
We finally arrived in Miami believing the hard part was over.
Then our flight to São Paulo got delayed 11 hours.
Another night.
Another obstacle.
Another opportunity to quit.
But that’s what most people don’t understand about success.
Success is rarely decided on the podium.
It’s decided in the moments when nobody would blame you for giving up.
When everything goes wrong.
When you’re exhausted.
When the universe keeps asking the same question:
“How badly do you want it?”
By the time we finally landed in Brazil, I was already 110% sure we had won.
Not because of the medal.
Not because of the result.
Because every obstacle that was supposed to stop us only made us more certain we belonged there.
The gold medal was not the victory.
The victory was refusing to quit when quitting would have been easy.
And that’s why those pictures means so much more than a championship.
It’s proof that when belief is stronger than excuses, the outcome becomes just a matter of time.
