Mule deer, elk, bear.. I’ve spent decades chasing em in the most remote mountainous places I could find. The terrain itself in these distant places always comes with a hefty dose of challenge which I absolutely love. I’ll always love the challenge of turning up an old crusty muley buck far from any trailhead in places it feels no one has stepped foot.
The past handful of years I’ve seemingly found a new challenge, not just as tough, but tougher. High country predator hunts.. Finding and taking these animals, (wolves and cats) has rekindled something in me lately. It can often feel like mission impossible up there. Limited sightings, long hours of looking and listening, these animals sure do test ya.. making the success so rewarding when it happens.
This wolf was no exception. Having the pack close so many times without actually laying eyes on them. Howling within 100 yards of my tipi and the goats multiple nights. Fresh tracks in my tracks from that day. I knew it was just a matter of time and sure enough I finally picked him up in the glass.
